What are Heishi beads?

Natural stone heishi beads are small , round beads, usually flat or slightly rounded.

What kind of jewelry to make with Heishi beads?

These flat, colorful beads are perfect for creating ultra-trendy costume jewelry in no time. Here are a few creative ideas:

  • Follow our tutorial, replace the polymer clay heishi beads with the natural stone heishi beads of your choice and make friendship bracelets. Use alphabet letter beads to write your name, the words to a song, your favorite mantra... Let your imagination run wild!
  • String Rondelle beads on a corded thread, a few rhinestone beads for sparkle and a gemstone pendant for a trendy choker.
  • Slide beads onto an elastic thread and create an accumulation of bracelets to wear on your wrist. Personalize your creation with charms, tassels, golden beads... Make single-color versions, or multicolor versions with several colors, using our tutorial as inspiration!
  • Follow our tutorial to make a lucky charm bracelet. Change the color of the gemstones to make a bracelet that suits you.
  • Mix natural stone heishi beads with golden rondelle beads to make creole earrings .

And to make sure you're using the right wire for your creation, find out which heishi bead wire to choose on our technical data sheet.

How to make a Heishi gemstone bracelet?

  • Take wire, wire protectors and a first Crimp bead.
  • Pass your wire through the bead to be crushed, then through the protection and back through the bead to be crushed.
  • Crush your bead with flat-nose pliers
  • Thread your gemstone washers, alternating, or not, the types of stones.
  • Finish with a Crimp bead, passing the wire through it, then through the protection and back into the bead to be crushed.
  • Crush the bead and attach your clasp

If required, our expert has created a trendy model that's easy to follow, even if you're a beginner!

Are Heishi natural stone beads water-resistant?

Yes, most minerals are water-resistant. This is one of the great advantages over metal beads, which can oxidize, or wooden beads, which can swell. Simply rinse your jewelry in clear water after a swim in the sea or pool.

How many Heishi stone beads do you need for an 18 cm bracelet?

Stone Heishi are often thicker, around 2mm to 4mm thick. For an 18 cm bracelet, you'll need between 45 and 60 beads, depending on the diameter you choose, 6 mm being the most common. If you're adding spacers or decorative beads, reduce the number of washers accordingly. We've put together a data sheet on this subject to help you.
