September marks the return of beautiful materials and projects that lift your spirits, and our theme for the month is entirely dedicated to natural stones. This multi-strand necklace tutorial is the perfect example: I invite you to create a delicate and refined piece of jewelry, where the soft pink hues of tourmaline and chalcedony blend harmoniously with the luminous whiteness of Rondelle beads made from mother-of-pearl. A handmade, elegant, and natural necklace to welcome the new season in style.
For this design, I’ve chosen to create a necklace with three strands. The first strand is made of pink tourmaline chip beads, with irregular, natural shapes. The second strand features small, light, and delicate white mother-of-pearl Heishi-style rondelles. The third row consists of round powder-pink chalcedony beads that lend a soft touch to the overall look. The three strands are joined by an oval spacer made of gold-plated stainless steel, which gives the necklace its structure and distinctive character. The entire piece is strung on clear nylon thread and fastened with a three-strand sliding magnetic clasp made of gold-plated stainless steel.
This necklace is easily customizable. For example, you can change the colors of the chip beads or the 4mm round beads to achieve a completely different look. Start by making the mother-of-pearl bead necklace. To do this, cut a length of thread about 50 cm long, leaving a little extra. Next, thread a crimp bead, then pass the wire back through in the same direction to form a loop. Flatten the crimp bead.
Next, take your knot cover and thread both ends of the wire through it. Position the crimp bead securely inside the knot cover, then flatten it.
Optional step: If you'd like to be able to wear the necklace on its own, you can add a Lobster Clasp to the ring. You'll find item number ACX-487 in the product variations. Be sure to adjust the quantity based on your selection.
Follow the same procedure for the next two necklaces. Keep in mind that the mother-of-pearl necklace is the one in the middle, the one with the round beads is the longest, and the one with the chip beads is the shortest. Adjust the length of the thread accordingly.
⚠️ Some chip beads may slide through your rectangular spacer more or less easily. You can therefore thread the spacer onto the necklace before finishing it, so you can make the most of the excess thread to help you as much as possible (see next step).
Slide the rounded rectangle spacer along your necklaces. Start with the necklace made of chip beads, since you’ll need to manipulate it slightly to get the larger beads through the spacer.
Then slide the other two necklaces onto the spacer.
Finally, attach the three necklaces to the magnetic clasp.
