Epoxy resin medallion with wire letter

How to make a medallion in epoxy resin?

Making this medallion is easy, but requires patience. To make the black opaque background, you need to use epoxy resin and colorant. The epoxy resin takes 24 to 48 hours to harden and two layers of resin are needed to make this pendant. A first black layer is used as a background and a second transparent layer is used to include the letter and create a nice 3D effect to the pendant. However, if you already have UV or UV LED resin and a UV or UV LED lamp, you can make these two layers of resin in a few minutes. However, take some UV or UV LED resin dye and use a little, because the light must still be able to reach the resin.

To make the pendant with the letter, we invite you to look at our three following technical sheets:

It is also possible to put a small metal shape like a moon, a bee, a sun in the medallion instead of a letter. You can also mix glitter with the UV LED resin for the second layer. It's up to you!

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Prepare your resin according to the dosages indicated on your packaging. You will need very little resin, but it's hard to measure and mix a small amount so plan on other more demanding projects at the same time. If this is the case, separate your resin into two containers and then add the colorant to the container that will be used for the mold and mix. Let the resin sit for 15 minutes to allow the bubbles to rise.

In a first test, I had added micas powders, but they don't show up much at the end, because most of the powder falls to the bottom, so it's not useful to put any.

Step 2

Pour the resin in a thin layer at the bottom of the medallion, using a spatula to avoid putting too much. Let harden for 48 hours away from dust and sunlight.

Step 3

Form your letter with jewelry clips. You can use our technical sheet linked in the introduction. You will find an alphabet to form letters with wire.

Step 4

Place your letter or shape to stick in the medallion on the hardened black resin. Pour clear resin with a spatula over the whole without overflowing. Glaze resin or UV LED resin will make a nicer bulge. The result with the epoxy casting resin will be flatter. Replace your shape or letter with a toothpick and let the epoxy set naturally or with the UV LED lamp for the UV LED resin.

Step 5

Thread the locket through the chain and attach the clasp to the chain with two rings.

Bonjour.

Cordialement
