Creating jewelry from dried flowers is within everyone's reach! Discover in this video a step by step process to make a pair of earrings with real dried hydrangea flowers and Cleopatra bi-component resin. On a white polymer clay base that serves as a work support and will give the final shape to the jewel, work different materials for a unique rendering.
These dried hydrangea flowers are specially designed for DIY creations, they are ready to use and do not discolor in contact with the solvents contained in the resin. For your information, the garden flowers that you would like to dry for the same purpose do not necessarily all react in the same way and often lose their colors. By opting for special DIY dried flowers, this kind of inconvenience will be avoided.
At first you will use the white polymer to make the support of your choice and then delicately place the flower on it. The shape is given thanks to a round cookie cutter (or the one of your choice). Usually, the cooking of the dough is done in an oven intended for this purpose. Once your polymer clay shapes have cooled, you will mix the two components according to the instructions (2 doses of resin to 1 dose of hardener) to obtain the resin. Do not forget to protect yourself by putting on gloves and airing your work piece if possible. Once the resin is ready, place some resin under and on the flower. The catalysis of the resin takes about two days, it is however more reasonable to wait three days to avoid leaving prints. The assembly after piercing your pieces requires a ring and a floral ear stud too. It's up to you!
The material needed for this tutorial (polymer clay, resin and dried flower board) will allow you to make a multitude of earrings, you just need to adjust the quantities of ear studs.

Take white Fimo, spread it with the help of a roller.

Pass the dough through the Imperia machine at step number four. Use round cookie cutters to cut out 2 pieces to make a pair of earrings.

Bake your rounds in a 120 degree oven for 30 minutes.

Use an 800 grit abrasive on the edges of the rounds.

Prepare your resin mixture with the two components by using two parts resin to one part hardener. Mix well and transfer to another container. Wait for the bubbles to disappear, it takes ten minutes.

Position your flowers on the rounds and then cut off any excess with your blade.

Cover your flowerless round with a light layer of resin.

Now place the flower on the round on the resin, press with a stick to make the air trapped underneath rise. cover the whole with resin.

Depending on the season and the ambient temperature the drying will take more or less time, here, three days of drying, you can according to the need pass again your abrasive to smooth the contour of your rounds.

Drill a hole in your rounds with a hand chuck or a dremel drill.

Proceed to the assembly by passing a ring in the hole then the ear stud. Small tip to avoid yellowing of your jewelry, leave them in the dark for a week after they are made.
