Resin earrings with stone chips and crushed glass

What to do with natural stone chips?

UV LED resin is an innovative resin that cures in just one minute under the effect of a UV LED lamp, giving you the opportunity to create resin jewelry quickly and easily. There are many ways to use it, and a wide range of compatible materials for creating jewelry: dyes, glitter, dried flowers, etc. Today, I'd like to suggest using crushed colored glass chips with a metallic coating and natural stone chips aventurine. We have a wide range of colors in our catalog, in both glass and stone, so feel free to personalize your earrings.

The technique I propose is adaptable to other materials. Be sure to use hollowed-out charms and pendants with a rim high enough to allow two layers of resin to be applied, and completely flat. The part to be resinated must be in full contact with the silicone modeling mat. You can also use this technique with two-component epoxy resin in backgrounds such as the ear chips shown in step 4. Note that transparent chips won't look good with a background, as the background will simply show through and the color of the glass won't stand out.

Please note! Always work with resin in a well-ventilated area, wearing safety goggles, gloves and a mask.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Place your charms on a silicone mat. The resin won't stick to the silicone, so you'll be able to remove your charms easily afterwards. Start by placing a small drop of UV LED resin on the bottom of the charms. The resin should touch the edges and cover the entire surface, but not too thickly. Use a toothpick. Catalyze the resin with a UV LED lamp for a few minutes (pause time depends on lamp wattage).

Then apply a second layer of resin. Distribute the splinters in the charm with precision tweezers. Prefer small chips. Place under the lamp for a few minutes. After a minute, you can pick up the charm and hold it close to the light of the UV LED lamp, turning it at various angles so that the light reaches every nook and cranny. If you're looking at the light, wear sunglasses. Also turn the charm so that the light reaches the other side.

If you wish, apply a final coat to the back of the charms to restore the shine of the first coat. Catalyze under a UV LED lamp.

Step 3

Attach your charms to studs or ear hooks. You'll need to use a junction ring to connect the charms to the ear studs.

Step 4

You can also use this technique to make ear chips. All you need is a single layer of resin on which to place the chips. To catalyze the resin, hold the ear chips by the stem and spend several minutes near the UV LED light, turning the loop at several angles so that the light reaches all the spots.
