How do you bind resin rings together?

Here is a quick and easy step by step tutorial to teach you not only how to tame uv resin but also how to achieve a small technical feat, interlacing 3 rings. If you are a beginner or if you want to discover uv resin, this tutorial is made for you. You can of course add as many rings as you want, or just make one. You can color the uv resin with powders, glitter, pigments or dyes specific to this resin. You can use other shapes of molds. Have fun and let your creative spirit speak.

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 1

Prepare 3 bowls with: a mixture of uv resin + gold metallic flakes, uv resin + silver flakes and clear uv resin.

Heat your resin with a heating mat or hot water bottle or with a heat gun to eliminate the bubbles and make it a little more liquid. It will then flow into all the gaps in the mould and your print will be perfect.

Step 2

Using a brush or a silicone spatula, fill a size 56 ring mould with the resin + golden flakes mixture.

Step 3
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 3

Using a cotton swab, clean the edges of the mould to avoid having to sand too much after demoulding.

Step 4
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 4

Do the same with the resin mixture and silver metallic flakes but this time with a size 50 silicone ring mould.

Step 5
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 5

Put under catalysis for 3 minutes under uv lamp or 90 seconds under uv led lamp.

Step 6
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 6

After the first catalysis, turn over and repeat for 3 minutes to make sure the piece has catalysed from all angles.

Step 7
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 7

Remove your rings and carefully remove excess resin with an exacto or a deburrer.

Step 8
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 8

Sand with 500 grit sandpaper for a nice finish.

Step 9
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 9

The edges will be regular and smooth but will have lost their shine. Don't panic, the next step will restore their shine.

Step 10
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 10

Here's a tip that will help you varnish your ring easily. Cut the tip of a toothpick.

Step 11
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 11

Put a small drop of uv resin on the edge of your ring.

Step 12
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 12

Stick your toothpick on with the help of the torch or uv lamp and you can manipulate and varnish your piece as you wish and with ease. This tip is valid for any other shape or bead.

Step 13
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 13

Varnish with a flat brush with fine bristles, the outside and inside of your rings and stick them on a block of polystyrene for 3 minutes of catalysis.

Step 14
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 14

Frost the slices of the golden rings only. Using the pointed silicone spatula, place drops of uv resin and spread them around gently. You will get a nice bulge.

Step 15
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 15

To glaze the other side of the ring, cut the toothpick flush, remove any imperfections with an exacto or deburrer.

Step 16
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 16

To glaze the other side of the gold rings, place them on a silicone mat with pins of this type, in case of drips, the resin will run off and fall to the bottom without sticking to the piece. If you don't have one, place the ring in balance on 2 toothpicks.
Using the pointed silicone spatula, place drops of uv resin and spread it all around for a nice bulge. Catalyze for 3 minutes.

Step 17
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 17

Here is the result, a shiny and smooth ring.

Step 18
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 18

The silver rings are the central links and must be cut in order to slide the earring and the gold ring. To facilitate the cutting, heat the side where the ring will be cut with a heat gun for a few seconds.

Step 19
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 19

If the piece is hot, the cut is like butter. It is clean. Use an exacto with a sharp blade.

Step 20
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 20

Insert the gold uv resin ring and then the ear chip ring.

Step 21
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 21

To glue the silver ring, use a toothpick to apply a small amount of cyanoacrylate glue.

Step 22
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 22

Press hard for 20 seconds.

Step 23
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 23

Once the glue is dry, it is now time to glaze the silver ring. To do this, using patafix, immobilize your earring like this.

Step 24
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 24

Without touching the other rings and with the help of the pointed silicone spatula, spread the uv resin drop by drop for a nice curved shape. This is a delicate step, take your time. Catalyse for 3 minutes then do the other side.

Step 25
Resin hoop earrings with intertwined rings : Step 25

And here is the result! A beautiful pair of earrings. You now know how to make a uv resin ring but also how to interlace several rings.
