How to make earrings with Fimo clay?

Thanks to this video, create a creation where two techniques are mixed together, that of a dark wood imitation in polymer clay and that of epoxy resin with a colour gradient.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Make your wood imitation in polymer clay by mixing two bars of brown with a bar of black and then next to two bars of caramel with a bar of brown. Stretch these two new colors in cylinders then add next to a bar of brown and another caramel. You have four cylinders of colors put them side by side then in your hands twist the whole several times until you get fine lines.

Step 2

Cut your cylinder into three parts, place them one on top of the other and then run the roller over the whole, the lines should be vertical. Pass your plate in the pastry machine by folding it in half and putting, be careful to maintain the lines of the pattern vertically. Pass it twice more through the MAP, always with a thick notch.

Step 3

Take your silicone mould, place it upside down on the imitation wood plate to mark the dough and to be able to cut out with a cutter the outline of the shapes. Only half of the shapes are of interest to us and notably the part that is pierced. Cut out all the earring shapes and insert them into the mould, roll them out on the surface. Bake your pieces at 120 degrees for 30 minutes in the mold.

Step 4

While the polymer is curing prepare your resin mixture by putting 30 ml of resin in a cup and adding 15 ml of hardener. Mix well and empty into another container to ensure a good mix. Divide this amount into 3 cups so that you can add blue dye to one and purple dye to another, the third is neutral.

Step 5

Remove your pieces from the mould, look for any defects such as uneven edges. You can lightly sand with a thousand grit sanding sheet before putting your pieces back in the mold.

Pour your colored resins under the paste in the mold, have fun making color gradients by putting drops of transparent resin next to those colored.

Step 6

Apply with a brush or a stick some transparent resin on the visible wood part, do not cover the holes. Let it set and harden for 2 days. Put the remaining resin in the freezer.

Remove your pieces from the mould, you may need to put a layer of resin on the whole thing as this resin, which is not a topping resin, shrinks when catalysed.

Step 7

Be careful to make sure the pieces are dry or you will leave your fingerprints on them. Take a 7mm ring to connect your two shapes and another smaller 5mm ring to connect to the ball ear studs.
