Polymer clay earrings with transfer leaf

How to use transfer sheets on polymer?

In this tutorial, you'll learn how to make a pretty pair of earrings from Fimo clay. Quite easy to make, you'll be able to get started on this project even if you're a beginner. In particular, you'll learn how to use transfer sheets and how to make holes with a hand mandrel.

The transfer sheet contains 16 motifs, so you can make several creations with a single sheet. In the list of materials at the bottom of the page, there are two transfer sheets, which will enable you to have a left and a right side, as the motifs are not in the same direction. I chose this transfer sheet design, but we've recently expanded our range, so feel free to have a look at all the transfer sheets we have on the site. As for the earrings, I thought this oval shape was nice for making the earrings and fitting well with the design, but we have a lot of choice on the site. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

If you reproduce these earrings, don't hesitate to tag us on our social networks Instagram and Facebook. We love to see what you make!

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Polymer clay earrings with transfer leaf : Step 1

To begin, take a piece of white polymer clay and knead it between your hands to warm the clay. Once softened, you'll be able to work it better.

Take your rolling pin and roll out the dough into a sheet about 3 mm thick. You can also use a pasta machine if you have one.

Step 2

Next, cut a pattern on each transfer sheet (left and right models). Place them on your baking sheet and roll them over until they adhere to the sheet.

Leave to set for 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 3

In the meantime, you can make the ear studs. To do this, take a piece of dough, knead it in your hands to warm it up and work it into a plate shape.

Take the smallest oval cookie cutter in the set and cut out two shapes on the plate.

Step 4

After the 15-minute exposure time. Take your dough sheet with the transfer sheets and run it under water to dissolve the paper. To do this, I recommend that you turn on your tap to a water flow that's not too strong and at a low temperature.

You can remove any remaining paper by gently rubbing with the pad of your finger. Be careful not to cause the pattern to smudge.

Leave to dry for 5 to 10 minutes.

Step 5
Polymer clay earrings with transfer leaf : Step 5

Once your plate is dry, you can cut out your pendant shape from your dough plate. For this, I used the third size of cookie cutter in the set.

Step 6

You can then place your creations in the oven. Be sure to observe the baking time and temperature indicated on the package of your polymer clay.

White Fimo clay colors very quickly if overcooked. For this reason, I advise you to keep an eye on the baking time to avoid ending up with a pinkish creation.

Step 7

Once baked, wait for your creations to cool, then use a hand chuck to drill them.

Step 8

You can then add an open ring to attach your stud to your pendant. Then glue your disc ear stud behind your polymer clay with Hasulith glue.

You can keep your creations raw if you wish. For my part, I chose to varnish them to make them shiny.
