We've organized a DIY jewelry contest so that you too can submit your own tutorial to our site. If you're interested, please let us know. And don't forget to keep an eye out for future editions. You'll find the jewelry of the other winners in our November DIY jewelry collection, "Perlement votre". A collection made by our customers for you!
For this polymer clay earring tutorial, Carole has chosen to make a pair of gold earrings, but you can also choose to make them in silver, bronze or even green or red! The choice is yours, and we're sure it'll be the right one. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, this tutorial is accessible to everyone, provided you have the necessary equipment, including a kiln! If you don't, it will be difficult to bake your flowers, as Cernit is a polymer clay that can be baked in an oven. Don't hesitate to consult our technical sheets on polymer clay for more information.

To begin, cut a piece of brown Cernit paste.

To condition the dough, cut it finely with a blade, then gather the pieces in your hand to form a compact ball. Knead it in your hands to warm the dough. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin.

Run through the machine several times.

The result is a square of dough.

Roll this square under your hands to form a tube.

Pinch the entire length of the tube under your hands. Cut a very thin piece.

The result is a petal.
All the petals of the flower will be molded in the hand.

Use the index finger and thumb of the opposite hand to lengthen the petal to the desired size.
The petal should be neither too thick nor too thin to avoid breaking.

Make ridges with your blade on the non-sharp edge.

Take the golden CERNIT powder and, using your index finger, gently place the powder on the petal.
Please remember to wear protective gloves during this step to avoid any contact with the skin.

When you're happy with the size of your petal, do the same for the others. For a total of 6 petals per flower.
Curl the edges of the petals slightly for a more realistic look.
When assembling the flower, be careful to fit the petals one on top of the other. But once the dough has been powdered, it will no longer stick together.
Make sure that the narrowest edge of the petal is not covered with powder on either side.
This will ensure a glue-free flower.
If you're new to making polymer clay flowers, you can cut a small round of clay (without powder) and place each petal on the round.

Mount the flower as follows.

Take some black CERNIT paste and make small spheres, place them in the center of the flower. Press well.

Preheat oven to 130°C.
Bake the two flowers on a baking sheet for 22 minutes.
Leave the flowers to stand until they have cooled.

Drill a hole in both pieces using a hand chuck.

Varnish both flowers with Cernit clear gloss varnish and leave to dry completely.
For a complete finish, you can powder the backs of the flowers at this stage, then varnish them.
Mount your earrings with 10mm gold-plated hoops and gold-plated flower studs.
Your earrings are finished and ready to wear.
