How to make resin earrings?
In this video tutorial, I present some earrings made with UV LED resin from Rico Design. This resin cures in just a few minutes using a UV LED lamp. The advantage of this Rico Design UV resin is that it comes in small 10 ml bottles, with the resin already colored! As the bottles are smaller than usual, it's sold at a more affordable price: less than 4 euros a bottle! What's more, it's very easy to use. The tip of the bottle is thin, and the fact that the resin is already colored is a big advantage.
Firstly, you don't need to buy a bottle of UV resin colorant in addition to the bottle of transparent UV resin, and secondly, you'll have exactly the same color from one piece of jewelry to the next. However, if you prefer to create your own colors, Rico Design colored UV resins can be mixed together. In this video, I show you my latest tests with this UV LED resin, and present two models of resin flower earrings.
First, I tried to create a gradient with different colors of UV resin, then I used a silicone mold for the resin to create a pretty heart pendant with colored polka dots. Next, I tried filling the petals of a pair of 3D flower earrings with resin. I tried several colors of petals, but found that a pastel color worked best. Finally, I filled a divider with colored resin to create stained glass effect earrings.
To make my creations, I used a silicone mat. It's a perfect tool for making resin, as the resin, once hardened, or rather, once catalyzed, is very easy to remove from the mat. Once you've finished your resin activity, if any traces of resin remain on the mat, you can clean it with a paper towel and rubbing alcohol or acetone. Then rinse it with water and allow it to dry before using it for other creations. Likewise, if your UV LED resin jewel is still sticky, run it under the UV LED lamp for a while longer, then, if it's still sticky, rub it with methylated spirits or acetone.
For greater safety: Wear gloves, goggles and, if possible, an organic gas mask, or ventilate your room well. Don't make UV LED resins in direct sunlight, as the sun's rays can harden them. Protect your work surface, as the resin is almost impossible to remove from porous surfaces.
