Silk cord for jewelry is of the highest quality. Natural silk is extremely soft to the touch, but also has high strength and low stretch. Silk thread has been used for centuries in jewelry-making. It is traditionally used to make natural bead necklaces. Supple and shiny, this pretty thread is easy to handle and knot.
What to do with silk thread
- Make an elegant choker with freshwater beads. Wear it to a wedding, a ceremony or with a little black dress for a retro touch.
- Make a multi-row bracelet with Seed beads, inspired by our tutorial. To close it, you'll need to make a twisted sliding knot.
- Tie the silk thread onto a creole to make original earrings. Add a few golden beads and you're done!
How do I attach a clasp to a silk thread?
- Once you've strung your beads, slide a clasp cover onto the silk thread.
- Tie two knots as close as possible to the knot cover. Then cut off the excess thread.
- Add a dab of glue before closing the knot cover and attaching the clasp. The glue will hold the wire in the knot cover and prevent it from fraying.
- Alternatively, use crimp ends to attach the clasp.
To finish off a bracelet, you can also make a sliding knot:
- Once you've finished your creation, make a macramé overhand knot. This will give you a sliding knot to close your bracelet.
- Add a little jewelry glue to the knot to hold it in place. It's not advisable to burn the thread, as silk doesn't melt.
- Then cut any protruding wires.
