How many charms to put on a necklace?

It all depends on the style you're going for! For a minimalist look, one to three charms are all you need, spaced out on a thin chain or slipped over a large clasp like pendants. For a more bohemian or symbolic effect, you can multiply the charms (up to 7 or more) to create a lucky charm or personalized necklace.

The key is to find the right balance: play with sizes, shapes and textures (letters, stars, beads, symbols...) for a harmonious composition. If you're using thicker chains or multi-row necklaces, you can add more weight.

Get inspired by our charms necklaces and bracelets tutorials!

How to hang a charm on a necklace (chain or wire)?

Attaching a charm to a necklace is fairly straightforward.

If your charm has an open ring, you can open it directly with pliers (the most effective method is to use two flat jewelry pliers). Then attach it to your wire or chain.

If it has a closed ring, you have two options: if you're making a necklace with wire, simply slide the charm onto the wire. If you're working on a fine chain, ditto. For mesh chain, you'll need a junction ring. Open it, insert your charm and hook it onto your chain.

If you need it, we've got a data sheet to help you learn how to open your rings properly.

What charms are on trend this year?

In 2026, the trendiest charms are those that tell a story or reflect a personality. Leading patterns include :

  • Astro & spiritual symbols: zodiac signs, stars, moons, protective eyes...
  • Tarot card charms: perfect for creating jewelry that brings good luck.
  • Organic shapes: irregular drops, hammered medallions, baroque beads...
  • Nature icons: shells, leaves, stylized animals, palm trees, the marine world...
  • Colorful charms: enamel, mother-of-pearl, hand-crafted glass or resin.
  • Vintage or quirky patterns: cowboy hats and boots, astronauts, dachshunds, cacti...

Combine them as you wish for a charms necklace that's 100% personal and up to date!

How to hang fancy beads like charms?

To transform a fancy bead into a charm, you can use a flat-head or eyenail: thread the bead, form a loop with round pliers, then hook it onto a ring or directly onto the links of your chain. That's what our designer has done in this charms necklace tutorial.

Which jewelry primers should I use to create a personalised charm necklace?

Here are the essentials for creating your own charm necklace:

Add your choice of beads, tubes, connectors, washers... for a truly personalized creation.

What's the difference between a charm, a breloque and a pendant?

Although they are often used together, there are nuances:

  • Charms and charms are the same thing. They are small, decorative hanging pieces, often mounted on a ring, designed to hang from a necklace or bracelet, alone or in an accumulation.
  • A pendant is often larger and more central, hanging in the middle of the necklace. It is usually the main piece of jewelry.

Charms, or charms, and pendants combine perfectly to create unique jewelry, rich in symbolism and style. Such is the case with this DIY jewelry model.
