Definition of silk

Silk is a natural material of animal origin, unlike cotton and linen, which are of vegetable origin. Silk comes from the cocoon produced by the silkworm. Silk thread is supple, strong and very soft.

How silk is used

Silk is used to create lingerie and silk garments, as well as for trimmings(silk ribbons, pompoms, silk thread) for both clothing and furnishings.

Threads, cords or ribbons: which to choose?

Each material has its own uses and advantages:

• Silk thread: fine and strong, it's ideal for stringing pearls, tying knots between each pearl (the classic pearl necklace technique) or creating delicate jewelry. Silk embroidery thread is very popular with embroiderers: it doesn't fray, threads easily over the needle and doesn't twist.
• Silk cord: thicker and stronger, it's perfect for bracelets, braided chokers or bohemian-style jewelry.
• Silk ribbon: supple and elegant, it can be used for silk embroidery or jewelry decorations, tied as a butterfly or loop on a cuff bracelet. It can also be used as a base for necklaces or bag jewelry.
