How to make ceramic powder jewelry?

Looking for a idée jewelry for a wedding, christening or other celebration? We've got THE perfect piece! In this tutorial for the magazine Idées à faire n°45, our creator Tiffanie suggests how to make earrings out of Raysin 100 powder. But what is Raysin powder? It's a white cementitious powder, ideal for casts of all types. This painless, neutral powder dries in the open air with a drying time of around 2 hours.

This tutorial will show you how to use it.

In this tutorial, you'll learn how to make two pretty white flowers, approx. 48 mm in diameter, which you can slip onto two gold créoles. A rather minimalist piece of jewelry, but one that will look great on a casual or everyday outfit. Raysin powder is sold in 1 kg bags. We then suggest a second DIY: a pretty box to match the earrings. You'll be able to store your latest creations inside, or any other accessories for that matter.

Tip: don't pour the rest of the mélange into your évier as you risk clogging it. Throw it in the garbage can and wait for the mixture to harden before tapping the dried powder onto the bowl with a spoon to remove the rest.

Tip: don't pour the rest of the mixture into your bowl, as you'll clog it.

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Raysin powdered flower creoles and box : Step 1

Mix Raysin powder with water, like plaster. Mix in a non-porous bowl, such as stainless steel or glass. Do not use wooden utensils.

To make your mixture, pour the equivalent of 5 heaped tablespoons of Raysin powder into the bowl. Follow the packet instructions for the correct amount of water, adjusting as you go. Mix well and quickly, as the powder hardens quickly. The liquid should have the consistency of stirred yoghurt.

Step 2
Raysin powdered flower creoles and box : Step 2

Start by pouring the mixture into the tin with the soup spoon. Tap the mold as you go, to smooth out the mixture. Once the tin has been filled, move on to the lid. Finish with the flower, using the equivalent of a teaspoon of coffee. The flower should remain thin so as not to be too heavy. Tap all the molds, 1 minute each, to release the bubbles before the mixture hardens. Leave to set for 2 hours.

Step 3

2 à 3h later, démoulez the boîte. Glue the mold to the edge, then to the center, and gently unmold.

Step 4
Raysin powdered flower creoles and box : Step 4

Gently mold the flower as it is still fragile. You can then make a very small amount of Raysin powder + water mixture to make the second flower. Try to have two flowers of the same thickness.

Step 5
Raysin powdered flower creoles and box : Step 5

Sand the edges of the box and flowers to remove excess Raysin powder. You can put your 1500-grit abrasive ponge and moldings in water to sand. This is called water sanding. The advantage is that you can clean the abrasive pumice as you go. Now all you have to do is thread the flowers onto the crates.
