How to use jesmonite

In vogue for several months now, jesmonite is the new creative hobby to try out right now! But what's jesmonite? Jesmonite is a material composed of gypsum and a solvent-free acrylic component, making it an environmentally-friendly alternative to liquid resin. Because it's less toxic, jesmonite is easier to work with and therefore requires less protection to produce your creations. It also dries much faster than liquid resin. Don't be surprised, one of the particularities of jesmonite is that it heats up during the drying process.

In this tutorial, we'll show you how to make a soap dish and a tray with a marble effect. But you can follow the tutorial using the mold of your choice - we have a wide range on the site. This material offers many creative possibilities: you can make little boxes to store your jewelry, trays to melt your candles (because yes, jesmonite is heat-resistant), coasters - in short, just about anything you want! So let your imagination run wild and make your finest creations.

To make your creations last, remember to use a varnish once they're dry.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Mix the Jesmonite components in the correct proportions (1 part liquid Jesmonite to 2.5 parts powder Jesmonite). Stir quickly, as Jesmonite hardens very quickly.
Add the colorant, then mix again. For a marbled effect, don't overmix, just make small movements.

Step 2

Pour the Jesmonite mixture into the soap dish. Distribute the mixture evenly.
Tap the mold to remove any air bubbles.

Leave to dry, then remove from mold.

Merci
