How to make resin Christmas decorations?

UV LED resin is a resin that cures in a few minutes under the rays of a UV LED lamp. Conventional epoxy resin, on the other hand, can take 48 hours to cure. The UV LED resin is therefore a very practical resin to have a result almost immediately. However, it is a little more expensive than epoxy and should only be used on small, not too thick surfaces. This makes it the perfect resin for an afternoon of Christmas tree decorating. You can hang all your little creations on the tree the same day and admire the result for the rest of the festivities.

At Perles and Co, we also have a Christmas tree to decorate! The marketing team of Perles and Co took this opportunity to propose you this small resin DIY. Most of the team members have each made a small Christmas decoration to hang on the tree. Discover in the video the face behind each decoration. Colored resin, glitter, dried flowers, heishis beads, there are all kinds of styles!

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Put on gloves and goggles. Open the windows to ventilate the room. Place your shapes to be filled on a silicone mat. For larger circles, the clamp will prevent the ring from lying flat. To overcome this problem, raise the mat with a book and make the clip protrude from the mat so that it is in the void. The shapes to be filled must be flat.

Step 2

The basic technique is the same from one decoration to another, only the content of the first layer of resin changes. First, if you want to use coloured resin or glitter/pearls, prepare your resin in a small Padico cup specially made for this purpose. Then pour the contents little by little into the shape. The resin should touch the edges of the shape. Be careful not to move it. For an inclusion of dried shapes or flowers, start by making a layer of transparent resin.

Turn on the lamp above for 2 minutes.

Step 3

Insert the dried flowers or shapes and pour a new layer of resin on top. Make a new layer of clear resin on top of the coloured or glittery resin layer as well. Turn on the lamp for 2 minutes.

Step 4

If the flowers are still sticking out a little, make a third layer and turn on the lamp for 2 minutes.

Step 5

Turn the shapes over and put a layer of clear resin on the back. This will remove the frosted effect from the back. Turn on the lamp for 2 minutes.

Step 6

Cut 15 cm of thread, pass it through the rings and make a knot. Your DIY Christmas decorations are done!
