How to make a carpe koî chopstick rest in UV resin in 5 minutes?

This resin can be catalyzed in 1 minute, all you need is the UV led lamp that works with it and, above all, a transparent silicone mold, as the light needs to pass everywhere for the resin to set properly. Have fun coloring the resin with the dye of your choice - here we used black, and for the gold on the fins and head of the fish we used Micas powders.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Using a fine brush, apply golden Micas powder to the inside of the mold, covering the fins and head. You'll need to apply it several times to make sure there's enough powder everywhere. You can apply the powder more lightly on the body of the fish, then wipe it off with a cloth so that the powder remains only in the hollows of the scales.

Step 2

Add a few drops of black colorant to a container with the UV resin, and try to protect the mixture from light so that it doesn't catalyze prematurely. Pour the colored resin into the fish mold, and approach a flame to make any bubbles created by the mixture rise and disappear.

Step 3

Position your lamp over the fish and flip the switch. Turn your fish over so that its other side is exposed to UV light. Wait about 5 minutes for your piece to cool before exposing the two sides of the fish in turn. Remove the resin from the mold, and your koi carp is ready to use. We've chosen to use it as an original chopstick rest, but it can also be used as a key-ring pendant if you drill it with a hand chuck, for example, and add a peg.
