How to make a brick stitch glass marker?
How to make a lemon brick stitch weave?
In June, @monpetitbazar, @lili_azalee and @coeur__citron launched a challenge on Instagram around the theme 'Tropical' in partnership with @perlesandco. The aim was to make a creation. There were two categories: "creative" (with their own diagrams) and "imaginative" (highlighting another designer's diagram). Several dozen participants came up with very cool and original creations.
Karyne from @Pastisaparis suggested weaving a slice of lemon to use as a glass marker - how practical is that? We can already see this weaving decorating all our pretty cocktails this summer! Her lemon slice won third place in the competition, congratulations!
For fans of Miyuki delicas, check out our brick stitch and peyote tutorials to make brooches, necklaces and earrings. To make a brick stitch weave, you'll need Miyuki 11/0. For beginners, you can read our technical sheets on brick stitch and peyote weaving to help you get started with bead weaving.
STEP 1:
Follow this pattern to weave the lemon slice using the brick stitch method. Don't know how to brick stitch? Find all our bead weaving technical datasheets, in particular " How to start a brick stitch" and " How to make a brick stitch weave with augmentation and reduction ".
Start with the largest line in the center of the diagram, as indicated by the black arrow. Cut a sufficient length of transparent thread, about 2 meters.

STEP 2:
Add the first two beads, one gold and one white, pass the thread through bead 1 and then through bead 2. Add a white bead and loop the thread through bead 2 and back through bead 3. Assemble this first row as shown
STEP 3:
Continue by weaving the left side of the weave. To do this, pass your thread through the last bead of row 1, thread a gold bead and a white bead and pass your needle through the white bead of row 1. Pass the thread through the next white bead in row 1, then through the white bead in row 2. Continue row 2 in the same way, following the weaving diagram.
STEP 4:
Once the lemon half is done, pass the thread back through your weave and resume weaving the rest of the lemon. The blackened part of the diagram happens to be the notch for securing the lemon slice straddling the glass, it should have no beads.
STEP 5:
Once you've reached the notch, pull up the row of beads as if it were the first row of your weave. Once finished, zigzag your thread through several beads, cutting the thread flush with the weave. To stiffen the finished work, brush the entire surface with Hasulith jewelry glue, and leave to dry for the time indicated.
We love to see your creations, so don't hesitate to send us your photos on our Facebook page or tag us on Instagram with #Perlesandco!
