How to create ex-voto jewellery in polymer clay? This tutorial offers you a step by step to make in a first part cabochons in Cernit Pearl paste and then in a second part you will make your heart borders in 3 different ways. So after understanding the principle you can adapt this tutorial to your desires.

Take small quantities of pink, purple, green and white Cernit Pearl pastes, run them through the MAP at the wide setting and then on a second pass turn down the setting of your machine two notches.

Place a piece of cling film on each sheet of pastry so that you get Brillantd heart-shaped cabochons. Place your largest heart cookie cutter on the film for the white and purple hearts, then the medium one for the pink and green hearts. Do not use the plunger of these cookie cutters with the film paper, the hearts formed will come off by themselves. The dough is very soft so leave the hearts on the tile without touching them and then bake at 120 degrees for 30 minutes.

After baking, immerse your hearts in soapy water and then sand with 1000 grit body sandpaper. Then go on (still in water) with micromesh for polishing and finish by polishing with a flannel disc mounted on the Dremel drill. It is useless to sand the back of the hearts which will be covered.

Take some black Cernit Pearl dough and make a plate by passing it through the Map at the middle notch. Put your heart on it and press lightly.

With a needle engrave stripes starting from the heart to go on the outside.

Take a cutter pen to cut out the dough and give it the heart shape again. With your needle, make stripes and tear some borders by removing mini-triangles of dough at the end of the stripes.

This time use Cernit number one black dough to make a firmer dough than the Pearl, and put it in the MAP on medium setting. Cut a thin black strip with your blade and chop it into small equal pieces (roughly). Roll each of these pieces on your hand to make balls. Take a very fine ball tool and mark the outline of the heart to position each ball.

Cut out shuttles from the black plate in 3 decrescendo sizes.

Place the shuttles on top of the white heart. Make a filament of dough, put it on the edge of all the balls it will serve to prevent that the balls slip or fall after cooking.

Cut out the contours of the heart neatly.

Same dough and thickness as the white heart step for the pink heart soles and the green. Build crowns with only 3 shuttles per heart and then with a filament surround the hearts. Take a needle and on regular spaces mark the dough with this filament.

Bake all your pieces at 120 degrees for 30 minutes. Once your pieces have cooled, roughly sand the smooth edges. Take the gold and silver Pebeo markers to paint everything around the hearts. Only the green heart is to be done in silver because it will be glued on a support bar of this color. Wait 15 minutes for it to dry well.

You need a very strong glue for the earrings, the barrette and the brooch, especially for the earrings that will always be under pressure to put or remove the butterflies. More than a glue I present you a sure value, it is the Céralun paste which is in fact a bi-component resin in the form of paste. It is used in mixture of two equal quantities, put this resin in the form of a small ball on the support and then put your piece on it by pressing strongly. The resin will surely come out on the sides, remove with your blade the surplus and clean your tools well because once it is taken it is finished. There is a whole range of colors of Céralun paste. It remains to pierce the central feather of the white heart (with a Dremel or a hand chuck) to pass a ring and thus connect it to a 50 cm necklace ready with its clasp.
