The different types of earrings

As you have noticed, there are different models of earrings. Stud earrings, clips, hooks, ear rings or sleepers... Which one to choose when making your new pair of earrings? Actually, there is no real rule about choosing your earrings.
The important thing is to consider the diameter of the wire, the diameter of the hole of the pearls or components you are going to use, and the length of the earrings in relation to your face and neck. But most importantly, choose them based on the comfort or aesthetics you are looking for.

Here is a small overview of the different kinds of earrings that you can find on our site.

The studs of ears

What is an ear stud? The stud earring is the most widespread and most used model in jewelry. They are also called ear studs because of their minimal size.
They are composed of a thin stem that crosses the lobe. This stem is maintained by a butterfly-shaped clasp. The clasp is not visible, which gives them the impression of "floating" on the lobe.
They come in all shapes and styles. You can find them in 925 Silver, Gold-Plated, Gold-Filled, Stainless Steel or 24K Gold.
Sometimes the earrings have a simple design and fit on your ear without adding anything. Some types of ear studs have a crimp to stick a cabochon on with a little jewelry glue.
If they have a hoop, on the other hand, you'll be able to let your creativity run wild and imagine a bunch of more original dangling earrings.

Now that you know a little more about the ear stud, we'll give you some ideas to get you started:

The Clips

These earrings are made for those who do not have pierced lobes. The ear clips are composed of a support and a clip-on closure that comes to "pinch" the ear. This way, the earring does not slip out.
If your earrings do not have a small rubber pad, you can add an ear clip protector. You will gain in comfort.

Did you know? Clip-ons were the last earring design to be created. They were created in the 1930s. They were a solution for wearing heavier, bulkier designs without distorting the earlobe.

The ear rings

Where can you find ear rings, those jewels that look like fake piercings? Look no further! We offer a wide range of ear rings and ear cuffs.
The ring comes in a half circle, it tightens and spreads to be positioned correctly on the cartilage of the ear. No need to make extra holes, just pinch it on the outer edge of the ear to secure it.
Unlike a traditional earring, you will be able to move and position it at will on your ear. And why not put several to be in the trend of stacking?
Ear cuffs are slightly more imposing than ear rings. U-shaped, they look like bun clips.

Creoles and half-creoles

These earrings have a long history, going back to the dawn of time. They have been worn by many civilizations and have survived the ages without losing their charm.
Traditionally, the creoles are round rings more or less wide. But today, we find them in the form of square, rectangle, heart, oval ... There is something for everyone.
Discreet or in XXL format, they suit all looks, all outfits and all styles. They can be worn as they are or they can be customized as you wish with beads, wire, chains, charms, pendants, pompoms, feathers, polymer clay elements...

The creoles are totally circular. They have different ways to close. The thread of the rings can be hollow to close them by inserting a thin rod. But they can also end with a ring or a loop where you have to insert a rod.
The half-creoles, also called "semi-circular creoles", are open.

Sleepers

What are sleeper earrings? When they were first created, a long time ago, sleepers were worn at night, because it was thought that the hole could be filled in while sleeping. Hence their name. Their shapes were designed accordingly, to prevent sleeping women from hurting themselves while sleeping.
They are recognizable among all, thanks to the way of closing them. They have a rounded hook clasp and a spring-loaded rod at the back.

Some models of sleepers are ready to use. Others are suitable for all DIY costume jewelry designs. You will be able to make ultra long dangling earrings or more discreet earrings.

Ear chains

Ear chains are also called needle earrings because they end on one side with a bar that allows them to be easily threaded into the ear hole.
Even though they have no fastening system, they are perfectly held in the ear hole and have very little chance of falling out.

Most of the time, they can be used without adding anything. But some models allow you to add a pearl, a sequin, a pendant or a cabochon.
Very feminine, the ear chains give elegance and presence to those who wear them.

The ear hooks

The ear hooks are the most basic earrings that exist. They are never worn as is. Perfect for DIY creations, they are generally reserved for the creation of long and hanging earrings.
In principle the stem of the hook is long so as not to lose your earring. But you can put a discreet stopper on the back of your earring for added security. It will prevent it from falling out.
