Zero waste is becoming more and more a part of our daily lives. For some, it's even a way of life. In this fact sheet, we suggest combining Zero Waste with the concept of upcycling. What is upcycling? The idea is simple! It's about giving a second life to your everyday objects, and creating something new from something old, by creatively transforming them. The aim is to reduce waste and minimize our impact on the environment. So we don't just throw things away, we embellish them.
There are a thousand and one ways to customize a glass jar: Fimo clay, paint, sequins, beads, stones, mosaics, string, raffia... Here, we've chosen to paint a motif with a frosted effect on our glass jar. This ordinary container becomes a real decorative object. You can also paint the motif with a special glass or acrylic paint.
For a perfect result, we didn't draw directly on the surface of the glass jar, but used a stencil. The static stencil we used for our tutorial is no longer available, but you'll find other stencils on our site. Choose your design and get creating!
If your glass jar has a label, don't forget to remove it! To do this, rub the container with a cotton pad soaked in nail polish remover (we all have some at home). You'll see, the result is incredible!
Once the jar has been personalized, it can be used as a pencil cup, a vase, a food container (if the jar has a lid that closes properly), extra bathroom storage or a candle jar.

Prepare your surface. Remove dust and grease. You can wash it with dish soap, for example. Wait until the surface is completely dry before proceeding.

Mark the stencil location on a sheet of paper and tape it behind the holder to help you position the stencil.
Carefully remove the static stencil from its cardboard backing and place it on the surface you wish to decorate. Keep the cardboard backing aside, away from dust.
Gently rub the stencil from the center outwards to remove any air bubbles, especially near the stencil cut-out, as paint may seep underneath and damage the stencil.

Cover the outline of the stencil with masking tape to prevent paint from spilling over the stencil.
Protect the work surface and work in a well-ventilated area or outdoors, out of the wind. Shake the aerosol can before each use until you hear the small ball move easily inside the can. Spray the frosted-effect paint 20/30 cm from the stencil for less than 3 seconds. Be sure to respect the spraying time and distance.
Do not remove the stencil immediately. Allow to dry for 5-10 minutes, then spray a second time if desired. Do not exceed 2 sprays.

When the frosted varnish is completely dry, carefully remove the stencil and replace it on the glossy surface of its cardboard backing.
To clean the frosted surface, wipe with a soft damp sponge. Do not use hot water. The product is dishwasher-safe.
