Can I use brass rings for jewelry that stands up to everyday wear and tear?

Yes, brass rings are tough enough to be used in everyday jewelry, provided you avoid excessive exposure to moisture and chemicals. They can keep their shine for a long time, especially if properly cared for.

What are the differences between open, closed and double rings?

In DIY jewelry, the choice ofring is essential to ensure the strength and finish of your creations. Each type of ring has a specific function.

  • The open ring is a small metal circle whose ends are not soldered. It can be opened and closed with two clamps, making it easy to connect elements together: charms, chains, clasps, pendants... It's a basic element in jewelry assembly. They come in different sizes, shapes (round, oval, etc.) and materials (stainless steel, brass, etc.).
  • The closed ring is a welded ring that cannot be opened. It is often used as an anchoring point to hang elements via another ring or a wire.
  • The double ring, or double spiral ring, resembles a mini key ring. It's made up of two joined spirals, which makes for a more secure attachment: once the item is inserted, it can't easily slip out. It's ideal for attaching charms or pendants to key rings, costume jewelry or accessories requiring a reinforced hold.

Each type of ring has its own advantages, depending on the project. For classic mountings, the open ring remains the most versatile. For greater strength, opt for a double ring.
