What's the difference between gold-plated, gold-plated and gold-plated pearls?

A classic gold-plated pearl (in brass or alloy metal) has a thin colored layer that can fade over time. A gold-plated pearl has a layer of real gold deposited by electrolysis. A gold-plated pearl generally has a thin layer of gold (less than 3 microns). Plating is carried out with 24-carat gold.
