How to weave Miyuki beads

Are you new to bead weaving? Thanks to this tutorial, the basics of weaving will no longer hold any secrets for you! Each step is detailed, and you'll learn step-by-step how to :

  • start weaving beads
  • make a peyote increase or decrease
  • block the thread in your weave
  • make a brooch or pin weave

Lili Azalée shares her free diagram for making an assortment of Miyuki beaded ice creams. It's the perfect way to take a break from the heat. But, let's face it, there's no season for good ice cream. Depending on your mood, these little woven patterns can be adapted to a variety of uses. Here are just a few ideas: fridge magnets, pins to customize a pencil case or schoolbag, greeting card illustrations, decorative settings or even miniature dinettes. In any case, it's all decided at the end, when the weaving is finished. The weaving technique remains the same.

Here, Lili Azalée brings you her favorite ice cream assortment with lemon, melon, strawberry and mint cones! Let your imagination run wild and create "new flavors" with the colors of your choice. For a non-identical creation, but relatively faithful to the colors presented, you can opt for theMiyuki by Perles&Co "Ice Cream"assortment in summer colors.

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 1

Prepare your material and beads. The references used for the cone are identical to the four ice creams: DB-1832 and DB-0205
Then choose the colors of your choice according to the flavor of the ice cream you want:
Lemon: DB-2284 and DB-2187
Melon: DB-2113 and DB-2034
Strawberry: DB-2116 and DB-0236
Mint: DB-1496

Step 2

Cut about 1 meter of thread and thread your needle. Place a blocking bead (green in this case) in a small knot. Leave about ten centimetres on the side opposite the needle.

Step 3
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 3

String the beads in rows 1 and 2 according to the diagram.

Step 4
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 4

For row 3, thread 1 pink bead through the second-to-last bead on the thread. Continue, threading 1 bead at a time and passing through every other bead in row 2 (i.e. the pink beads). Once you've reached the last bead of the row, you'll need to change direction to start row 4.

Step 5
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 5

Thread the last pink bead and then pass your thread from right to left through these 3 beads (1st and 2nd beads threaded and penultimate bead of row 3).

Step 6
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 6

Pass from left to right through these 3 other beads (3rd, 2nd and 1st strung).

Step 7
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 7

Continue row 4. At the end of the row, make an increase. To do this, thread 3 beads onto your needle, then pass the thread back through the 1st bead (here, the pink one on the right).

Step 8

You need to get this result.

Step 9

At the end of row 5, the beads must be increased again. Note that 2 beads need to be threaded here. Pass your thread through the beads as shown in the following photos (steps 10 and 11), so that the thread shows through in the weaving direction.

Step 12
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 12

To weave row 7 you are in the right direction at the end of row 6. Simply add a bead as shown in the photo.

Step 13
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 13

To attach the last bead of row 7 and change direction to start row 8, pass the needle under the thread bridge linking rows 3 and 5.

Step 14
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 14

Continue weaving in this way. When you notice a decrease at the edges, use the technique from step 13.

Step 15
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 15

If there is a decrease inside the weave, pass the thread under the thread connecting the bottom beads as follows

Step 17
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 17

Once you've finished the ice cream part, pass your thread through the beads and out through the gold bead to begin weaving the cone.

Step 18
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 18

Weave the cone using the same technique and make the various tapers.
At the end, pull the thread through your weaving, zigzagging through a few beads. Cut flush. Remove the blocking bead and do the same with the starting thread.

Step 19
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 19

For the finishing touches, draw the outline of the mirror on the imitation leather with a felt-tip pen. Cut out your template, removing about 1mm. The imitation leather should not be visible when you glue it to the back of your mirror.

Step 20
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 20

Pierce the imitation leather, placing the pin in the center like this.

Step 21
Delica Miyuki peyote weaving ice diagram : Step 21

Glue the pin + imitation to the back of your weave. Leave to dry for several hours.
