Tutorial steps

Step 1
DIY Turtle beach towel with Miyuki beads : Step 1

Cut a length of yarn of about 1.5 meters. This length is not enough to weave the entire pattern, but it is not comfortable to weave with more yarn.

To start a peyote weave, string the first two rows of beads, 36 yellow beads for this pattern. Position the beads so that the needle is on the side with 1m of thread and the other side has 50cm left.

Step 2

Start the third row of beads. To do this, thread a bead (yellow) and pass the needle back through the second to last bead. The new bead should be positioned above the last bead.

Step 3

Continue with the row that contains only yellow beads. To do this, thread a new bead, and pass the needle back through the second bead from the bead where your thread exits. So "skip" a bead each time and the new bead will come to position above the skipped bead.

Step 4

Start the fourth row, also all yellow. It's easier because the beads have formed hollows and so you can see better where the beads will go.

Continue with the fifth row which will end with an emerald bead. And so on, continue following the pattern. When you reach the end of the length of thread, try to finish the row and then hide the thread by going back through the previous rows. Take a new length of yarn, and start where you left off, leaving about 10cm of yarn. You will also need to hide this 10cm in the beads of the previous rows.

Step 5

Once the pattern is finished, don't hide the end of the thread! It will be used to make the bangs. On the thread, string 3 beads, skip the last bead and go through the first two. Then go through the last bead of the previous row. You have the first fringe. Continue by threading 3 beads again, go through the second to last and the second to last bead and finally go through the next bead in the last row.

And so on until you have made bangs on the whole length. Use the 50cm of thread left at the beginning to make the bangs on the other side.
