Adjustable bracelet with square gum effect beads

Here's a little tutorial to give you some ideas for creating with the new gum-effect coated beads. These beads are neither plastic nor glass. They're beads made of sturdy Zamac metal. They have a soft, matte surface and a wear-resistant coating. They come in rectangles, squares and chevrons of different sizes and are designed to be combined together.

In this adjustable bracelet tutorial, we've used just two bead shapes. Feel free to take a look at our range of gum beads to create your own bead and color scheme. The wire used is Linhasita 0.75 mm micro-macramé wire. This wire makes knots easy to make and, as it's synthetic, you can melt it with a wire burner or lighter for finishing. You can also create elastic bracelets with these beads. As the beads are heavy, it's best to use 0.8 mm wire and pre-stretch it before stringing. Click here for instructions on how to make elastic bracelets.

Wait 24 hours before touching the rondelle glued to the bead. If you've applied enough glue, it should hold well. You can check after 24 h. If it doesn't hold, re-glue it with more glue. Take care of it anyway, avoiding leaving it in your handbag with other objects that could damage it.

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Adjustable bracelet with square gum effect beads : Step 1

Cut 2 x 40 cm of wire. Thread the following beads: 1 golden spinning top, 1 delicas 11/0 on each thread, 1 square gum bead, 1 fine rectangle gum bead, 1 delicas 11/0 on each thread, 1 fine rectangle gum bead,

Step 2

Tie a knot on each side to hold the beads in place.

Step 3
Adjustable bracelet with square gum effect beads : Step 3

Cut a new thread of 20 cm and tie it with a simple knot on the 4 threads of the bracelet crossed 2 to 2. With the new thread make a flat macramé knot of 0.5 cm long. To do this, pass the upper thread under the 4 threads, the lower thread over the 4 threads and pass the upper thread through the loop of the lower thread and the lower thread through the loop of the upper thread.

Step 4

Repeat the previous operation but reverse the position of the wires. The top wire passes over the 4 wires and the bottom wire underneath. Tighten and repeat steps 3 and 4 at least 1 more time.

Step 5

Cut the excess thread a few millimetres from the square knot and burn it, being careful not to burn the rest of the knot. The ends of the thread will melt and form balls that will prevent the knot from coming loose.

Step 6

Test the bracelet on your wrist to see what the minimum amount of wire you should keep to be able to put it on. Make a light mark with a pencil to help you find your way around. Thread a golden spinning top and a crumpled sequin on both wires each time. Tie a knot in the sequin, 1 cm from the mark you drew. The knot was quite difficult to take a picture of. If you don't understand the following instructions, simply make a double knot. Wrap the piece of yarn twice around the thread and pass it through the two formed loops and then tighten on both sides by bringing the loops closer together. When everything is tight, cut off the excess wire and burn it.
