In this tutorial you will find two techniques to apply on polymer clay. The first is an imitation of batik fabrics from Africa and India with its crackle effect only on the white parts. The second technique will show you how to imitate a dark wood a bit like ebony. These two imitations get married very well together, follow our step by step to create a pair of wood and batik earrings.
Step 1
Take half a loaf of 56 g white Fimo paste. Make a plate by passing it through the dough machine to a thick notch.

2nd step
Put your silkscreen on the dough, pass the roll to make it adhere to the maximum then with a card or a squeegee deposit white gouache paint on the whole surface. Immediately remove your stencil to wash it. Let your paint dry on the dough.

Step 3
Stretch your dough plate to crack the gouache paint and roll it in all directions to accentuate the effect. Take 2 rounds of 4 cm from this plate using a cookie cutter.

Step 4
Make an imitation wood by taking the same amount of brown paste and black paste. Make two cylinders, put them side by side and make a twist of the 2 colors. Make a ball from this mix then give again the shape of a cylinder to your ball. Hold the dough by its ends to reform streaks on the dough by starting a spin again. Start this step a third time to have features fine enough to be able to imitate the wood.

Step 5
Cut your cylinder in 2 and stack the 2 ends. Roll the roll to flatten and solder the pasta together, paying attention to the direction of the scratches that must be vertical.

Step 6
Put everything in the dough machine and fold the dough on itself to make a second pass and remove the line on the dough that marks the junction.

Step 7
With the same cookie cutter as for the white dough, take 2 rounds in the wood effect plate. Cut symmetrically the top of your wooden round and the same part of your white circles. Reform two round two colors.

Step 8
Put a sheet of baking paper on your pieces, smooth the surface with a card to solder pasta of 2 colors.

Step 9
You need to enlarge the surface of the wood plate pass in the dough machine a notch fine enough to have earrings not too heavy. Place your rounds on the rest of the wood plate, pass the roller to chase the air between the 2 layers of dough. Lay a kitchen stretch film on the rounds and then take their shape with the cookie cutter.

Step 10
Take 2 more 1.5 cm rounds with a new cookie cutter from the remaining wood dough. Cook all your pieces at 120 degrees for 30 minutes.

Step 11
Make a small mixture of alcohol ink with green and blue. Apply your mixture with a brush, trying not to iron twice in the same place.

Step 12
Let it dry for 5 minutes before dipping your pieces in boiling water. Rub gently with your fingers the surface of your circles so that the gouache dissolves and the stencil effect is revealed.

Step 13
Drill your rounds with a hand mandrel.

Step 14
Pass a ring in each big round to connect it to the smaller one. Glue the ear studs on the small round wood effects.
