DIY Resin earrings and rings

How to make trendy costume jewelry?

As you may have noticed, resin jewelry is one of the major trends in costume jewelry at the moment... and at Perles&Co, we are very happy about that! Here, we love resin and the multitude of creative possibilities it offers. Resin andacetate (two materials very close to each other) are widely used in jewelry design because they have many advantages: an unparalleled lightness, a multitude of shapes, colors and effects available (marbled, tortoiseshell, pearly...). Creating your own jewelry is therefore a real child's play and allows you to give life to all your creative ideas, even the most eccentric!

So, you may wonder how to make resin jewelry? It's simple, there are two solutions available to you:

1/ for the most creative among you, you can start making your own resin shapes for a 100% unique realization using for example silicone molds for resin and our epoxy resin or uv resin kits (it all depends on your project). To learn more about the subject, you can consult our sheet: UV resin or epoxy resin: which type of resin to choose?

2/ for a simpler and faster project, the large choice of resin and acetate pendants available on our site should help you find what you are looking for. Once you have your central piece, you can decorate it with jewelry primers and transform it into a pair of earrings or any other project of your choice.

As you've probably guessed, this is the second option we've chosen in this easy and cheap jewelry tutorial! The marbled resin pendants used in this tutorial are combined with qualitystainless steeljewelry primers to make them durable over time. No surprise, stainless steel jewelry is perfect when you want to opt for quality costume jewelry (especially in the summer). They offer us a long life, because as their name suggests, they are jewelry that do not oxidize and resist water for example.

To do this tutorial, you will need a jewelry pliers kit, a tube of jewelry glue and the list of primers listed at the bottom of the page. As mentioned above, this tutorial can be made in many variations according to your desires. You can find other colors in the list of complementary materials "variation". It's up to you to find the perfect combo that you like (and especially to share it with us on our social networks!)

Tutorial steps

Step 1
DIY Resin earrings and rings : Step 1

To create a pair of earrings you need (in addition to the tools) :

- two round hollowed out resin pendants in the color of your choice (here two examples)

- two 14 mm round resin cabochons in the color of your choice (to match or not with your pendant, both possibilities are illustrated above)

- a pair of 14mm disc ear studs with open fastener (can be replaced by classic disc ear studs provided you add a ring to link the ear stud to the pendant).

- stainless steel rings worked (or not) in two different sizes (10mm and 12mm)

Step 2
DIY Resin earrings and rings : Step 2

For this step you will need two jewelry pliers (preferably flat, but round-tipped pliers can also be used). Be careful, the rings are thick and made of stainless steel, so they are relatively resistant and difficult to open. It is also necessary to open them large enough to fit on the pendant. As a reminder, our sheet on how to open a ring in jewelry making ?

Here, the smallest rings (10mm) are located at the ends and the largest (12mm) are in the center in regular alternation. Here is the detail (no particular meaning, it is a symmetry):

- *1 ring 10mm twisted

- 1 ring 10mm striated

- 1 ring 10mm twisted

- 1 ring 10mm striated*

- 1 ring 12mm twisted

- 1 ring 12mm grooved

- 1 ring 12mm striated

- then repeat the sequence of 4 rings from the beginning, indicated between the *

Step 3
DIY Resin earrings and rings : Step 3

To connect your pendant to the disc ear stud you will need a flat clip. Put your pliers inside the clip and swing it open wide to slide your pendant in.

Close the clamp using the same process. The clamp will not close all the way because the pendant is slightly too large, but that doesn't matter. Your pendant will still be held securely and will not slip out.

Step 4
DIY Resin earrings and rings : Step 4

You just have to glue your cabochons on the ear studs. For this, you can either use classic jewelry glue (Hasulith type) or bi-component glue. To do this, mix the two components (binder / glue + hardener) following the suggestions indicated by the supplier on the product.

Glue one or the other side (the stud or the cabochon) for a better adhesion and position them one on the other. Let dry for several hours or 24 hours for a complete drying.

Your pair of earrings is finished!

Merci beaucoup !
