How to make earrings in Fimo clay?

Here is a step-by-step guide to create a Fimo duck with the drawing of a rose. With this floral pattern designed in the mass of the polymer clay you can then cut thin slices to cover a sheet of white clay and gradually create your pair of earrings with roses.

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 1

Take half a bread of Fimo proffessional dough in primary red colour and only 2 bars of black dough from a soft Fimo bread, the bars are much smaller than the proffessional range. Pack them in your hands then make two cylinders, place them side by side and pass the roll before folding it in half and passing it through the dough machine with the thick notch.

Step 2
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 2

After about fifteen passes in the pastry machine, always folding the dough on itself, you get a gradation of colours.

Step 3
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 3

Cut your gradient plate in two parts in its width and then superimpose them. Reduce your MAP notches to the thinnest. Run the length through the machine to obtain a long ribbon.

Step 4
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 4

Fold the whole length of the ribbon in an accordion shape, you can lightly pass the roll after each fold of superimposed dough.

Step 5
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 5

Compress your block, lengthen it slightly by pulling on both sides, cut 5 slices approximately equal in length. Set all these ends aside.

Step 6
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 6

Take half a bar of black dough and pass it through the machine at the finest notch, cut strips about 2 cm wide. Take a fifth of a bar of white, roll a small cylinder about 2 cm high.

Step 7
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 7

Cut the cylinder in two parts, then insert the black paste in the centre, close the cylinder and cut off the black paste that protrudes.

Step 8
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 8

Continue to put the black pastry ribbon on four cuts of the cylinder. Cut in two parts.

Step 9
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 9

Take a small piece of white paste to make mini cylinders that you will put on the half-round, do the same with black paste, put it between the white cylinders. Reserve this flower center.

Step 10
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 10

Take your block of shredded pasta and use three slices to make some kind of moons. Pinch the ends and slide the black dough so that it goes all the way to the pointed end, bend it by pressing in the middle and hold the rest. Be careful, two moons have the black at the bottom while the third one has the red. You still have to shape two more slices of the starting block.

Step 11

This photo corresponds to a slice first cut in two parts. One half is cut in two again, the moons on the left, on the right the second half is cut in three pieces. With each piece form a crescent with the black at the bottom.

Step 12
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 12

Take the centre of the flower and start to surround it with the smaller moon shapes as shown in the photo.

Step 13
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 13

Retrieve a small piece of the ribbon that has already been used to position it only on top of the top moon.

Step 14
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 14

Place the other two crescents from the centre of the moon where the black strip has just been placed. Now cut the last slice of the gradient block in two parts, shape the crescents and place them at the bottom of the pattern.

Step 15
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 15

Place a thin ribbon just below the pattern so that the edge is not red.

Step 16
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 16

Use a tool like a pen to make a few hollows on the edges of the rose.

Take some white translucent paste, create cylinders and place them in these recesses.

Step 17
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 17

Cut wide slices directly from the translucent block of dough that you will use to surround the whole pink duck. Do not superimpose your lengths, connect by cutting the dough cleanly.

Step 18
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 18

Circle the whole duck with your hands and gradually start the duck reduction.

Step 19
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 19

Lengthen your duck until you have a diameter of slightly more than two centimetres. The translucent paste has completely covered the sides, you have about 3 cm to remove on each side to find your reduced rose. This step of reduction is the most difficult thing to do. If your hands are too hot you can put your duck in the fridge a few minutes before continuing the manipulation.

Step 20
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 20

Cut two thin slices from the duck and place them on a baking sheet of white pastry with a thick notch. Place a baking paper on the surface and then with a smooth card making small rounds.

Step 21
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 21

In a white plate with a thick notch, remove two squares with a cookie cutter. Cut your duck in two parts and reduce in one to have small roses of one centimeter.

Step 22
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 22

Place your slices of small roses in a line at the bottom of the squares. After having put all the elements at the same level by smoothing with a card, put down some film paper and then put down again your punch for your squares.

Step 23
Pink cane polymer clay earrings : Step 23

Place film paper on the rounds and then remove two pieces with a two-centimetre diameter punch. Bake your pieces in an oven at 120 degrees for 30 minutes.

Step 24

After firing the pieces were sanded with a thousand grain and then passed under several grains (3) of micro-mesh before finishing the Dremel polishing with a flannel disc.

In this tutorial I propose an alternative to the different glues that in time make our jewel does not hold and everything comes off. It's an epoxy resin called Ceralun which is in the form of a paste, you have to mix two equal quantities of one and the other then place it where you want, it will solidify in 24 hours and it adheres to all supports, it's magic.
