Do you know how to make a floral design with polymer clay?

In this tutorial you will find out how to make a color gradient and a target cane to put light in your polymer painting. From small simple ducks and different cut-outs with the Fimo coloured pasta scalpel we show you how to create flowers, herbs and leaves in the first instance in relief on the base plate. Then you will see how to transform your pattern by making it flat and smooth so that you can in a last time add details with a fine brush and white acrylic paint.

This polymer technique is not difficult and is very pleasant to do.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Prepare a baking sheet that will be the background colour of your design, take half of your bread of Cernit nature granite dough, pass it through the Imperia dough machine with a 4 or 5 notch.

Prepare an ochre colour by mixing a little Fimo caramel with the Fimo sunflower colour. Take 2 different greens and pass all these colours one after the other through the dough machine to a very fine notch the number 2.

Prepare two target ducks by making two different gradations, the first with purple and white, the second with burgundy and white.

Reduce your ducks and then cut them into four parts. Shape each end into a petal-like shape, cut into thin slices.

Begin to build your painting by making flowers with the target ducks and then some in ochre with a cookie cutter. Use the green colours for the foliage.

Flatten your painting by placing baking paper on the surface and then with a card smoothing the surface.

Take a brush as fine as possible and then white acrylic paint, draw outlines with flowers without really following the patterns.

Cut out some pieces from your plate with film paper to get a slightly rounded effect of your pieces. Bake at 120 degrees for 30 minutes, wait for it to cool and then sand the underside and edges of your pieces with a fine grain of 1000.

Drill your loops either with a hand chuck or a Dremel drill, remove the squares from the supports and glue them. Add two rings to connect your two parts to create your pair of earrings.
