How to make a piton knot trivet or Celtic knot?
Here's a trendy and easy to make tutorial with our piton knot trivet template. Print it out and follow the video to make your own trivet. It's also a great handmade gift idea that many people will love! It's a useful diy gift so there's little chance of missing out!
You need about 7 m of thread to make this knot. The spool of 4.5mm cotton rope we have listed in the material list at the bottom of the page is 45m long. So you can make 7 trivets or just one and use the rest of the rope to make macramé or small rope pots like in the tutorials below:

The Piton knot is a knot that is not used much these days on boats. It is mainly used in decoration and in knot boards.
This tutorial can be done with other ropes or wires but the template will not be adapted. You will have to tighten or loosen your knot. Remember to use only cotton and not synthetic rope if you want to make a trivet.
For a quick finish use glue but for a more accurate work sew the ropes together by sewing the 5 ropes at the same time if possible.
