To open a large ring, you can use either wire cutters or jeweller's shears. You'll need to locate the opening of the link you want to remove. Hold the ring between your fingers, then position your cutting pliers or jeweller's shears perpendicularly over the link junction.
Then apply pressure as if you were cutting the ring. Remove the link with your fingers.
You too have succumbed to the current trend for XXL mesh chains. But do you have the right length? Isn't your chain too long for the fancy necklace or DIY bracelet you want to create?
To adjust a necklace to the right length or to make a bracelet, the solution is to shorten your chain. To do this, you need to remove the rings you don't need.
The large links of our stainless steel chains are perfectly interlocked, but not welded. Removing them requires a little dexterity and a special technique, different from that used to open conventional rings.

Please note: while it's possible to open large stainless steel links, it's very difficult to close them again.
Locate the opening of the link you want to remove.
Hold the ring firmly between your fingers. The opening is at the top.
Position your cutter or jeweller's shears perpendicularly over the link junction.
Apply pressure as if you wanted to cut the ring. The links are strong and sturdy, so you may have to use a little force. Rotate the pliers if the rings resist, to widen the opening of the ring.
Remove the link with your fingers.
