Serpentine chain is a type of jewelry chain that is made of tightly linked, undulating links, giving it a fluid, supple appearance, almost like snakeskin. It is composed of S- or Z-shaped links that interlock, creating a smooth, continuous surface. The chain is very fine and special, and cannot be used like conventional chain. It is not possible to slide a connecting ring directly onto it to add a clasp.
There are many ways to use them, but you need to be a bit clever. Here are three ideas for adding a clasp to serpentine chain.
The best-known method of attaching a clasp to serpentine chain is to add a lace clip or cord end to each end of the chain. The lace clip is an elongated end piece with a ring on one side and claws or flaps on the other. The serpentine chain is placed inside, and the claws are folded over the chain with flat-nosed pliers. You can also apply a little glue before sliding the chain on. Once the lace clips are attached, all that's left to do is insert an open ring to connect the tip to a clasp. Choose lace clips that are slightly larger than your chain, as these are hard and thick, unlike laces and cords? You'll need to allow a little more margin.

Another trick is to attach a small bead to be crushed at the end of the chain and close a knot cover with a fastener over it. There are knot covers that are threaded onto the chain, and others that are placed on the side of the chain. If you choose a knot cover that slips over the chain, you'll need to check that the hole in the cover is large enough to accommodate the chain. Note that some knot covers have no fasteners. You can also use ball chain attachments.

For this trick, attach a large crush bead to the end of the chain with your flat-nose pliers. Then slide the bead into a bead weaving tube. This will enable you to create multi-row bracelets. You can also use this technique with other types of chain, cord or bead wire.
