How to make gemstone jewelry?
In summary

Making jewelry with natural stones is easy! Choose your stone: Lapis Lazuli for a touch of blue, Moonstone for softness, Aventurine for soothing, etc. Equip yourself with jewelry-making essentials: wire, pliers and rings, and let your creativity run wild as you compose gemstone rings, gemstone necklaces or natural stone bracelets and earrings!

Gemstones, whether precious or not, possess natural colors and a natural beauty that irresistibly draw us in. Their imperfections reveal their millennia-old history, and perfectly cut gemstones are synonymous with rarity and elegance. It must be said that with their wide range of colors and their brilliance, it’s easy to fall under their spell.

Elegant and delicate, natural gemstones appeal to both men and women. They’re the ideal choice for creating DIY costume jewelry.

Even in the world of costume jewelry, gemstones are an absolute must-have. At Perles & Co, we love offering ideas that are accessible to everyone through our thousands of costume jewelry tutorials, so you can create your own personalized gemstone jewelry to wear or give to friends and family.

Flower-shaped earrings made from natural stones

These earrings are super easy to make and are the hottest trend right now! Ultra-trendy and available in every color to match your outfits and moods, all you have to do is slide your flower pendants onto the hoop earrings of your choice to wear them! Feel free to try the mismatched look with different pendants on each ear, orgo for an asymmetrical style with a round hoop on one ear and a rectangular one on the other.
And if you’re often indecisive, just switch out your pendant every morning—and you’ll have a new pair for every day of the week! On Monday, a purple jade flower pendant; on Tuesday, a tiger’s eye; on Wednesday, a crazy agate; and so on.

These earrings are THE must-have piece this winter—create your own today!

A zoiseite ruby and costume bead bracelet

Here’s an original and charming piece of men’s jewelry! This bracelet features zoiseite ruby beads—known for their green color with darker accents — alternating with pétanque-style beads, making it the perfect accessory for a man. Discreet yet full of character, it’s as easy to make as it is to wear every day. It’s a great idea for a DIY birthday or Christmas gift.

Gold Hoop Earrings with Gemstone Cabochons

This unique pair of earrings combines charm and style: the timeless appeal of textured gold jewelry and gemstones, which are all the rage this winter! For this super-simple design, we’ve chosen to showcase it with sodalite and a mix of semi-precious stones (malachite, agate, green agate, red agate, and sunstone).
But nothing’s stopping you from using whatever semi-precious stones you love. Personalize your hoop earrings withamethyst, lapis lazuli, tiger’s eye, rose quartz, or rhodochrosite… Let your imagination run wild!

A tourmaline stone necklace with a resin pendant

Layering jewelry is always very trendy. That’s why we’re offering this multi-strand necklace with tourmaline stone beads. This necklace design is ideal for beginners since it requires little to no prior skill.
What’s great about tourmaline is that it comes in not just one color, but a multitude of shades. In fact, did you know that’s where its name comes from? “Turamali” in Sinhalese means “stone of a thousand colors.” So, no two necklaces will ever be exactly alike!

Hoop earrings with multicolored agate beads

Here’s a quick and easy jewelry project that’s sure to win over many! To create thesefall-inspiredstatement earrings, we’ve chosen the warm hues ofdyed agate, but you can opt for the mysterious purple of amethyst, the deep black of onyx, or the soft pink of rhodochrosite.
No matter which natural stone you choose, these dangling earrings will look perfect with both formal and casual outfits.

A 925 Sterling Silver Weekly Bracelet with Howlite and African Turquoise

The week bracelet is a must-have in any jewelry box. We love this layered look of delicate bracelets, which can be styled however you like. This model—perfect for beginners—features a 925 Sterling Silver wire, silver beads, African turquoise beads, turquoise beads, andhowlite beads.
This silver week bracelet is made without a clasp. The more you wear it, the more it will develop a deliberately worn-in and slightly distorted look.

A chunky-link necklace and bracelet set with hollow gemstone pendants for men

We’ve told you before: “Natural stones appeal to women just as much as they do to men.” The proof is right here with this matching chunky-link necklace and bracelet set featuring Lapis Lazuli and Sodalite pendants—perfect for men’s looks! The best part is that it takes next to nothing to make them: a stainless steel chain, a clasp, natural stone pendants of your choice, and jump rings to connect everything.
Here, we’ve gone with blue stones, but you could also opt for a softer version with aventurine, or a more striking one with red jasper.

A bracelet made of colorful gemstone beads

We love the vibrancy of this colorful beaded bracelet. To make it, just follow our super-easy tutorial. Single, double, or triple wraps—it’s up to you how you like your jewelry.
If you’d prefer a less colorful version, feel free to use natural stones in soft hues, like peach moonstone.

A lucky necklace made of faceted blue natural stone beads

We love this pretty necklace, which pairs just as well with a casual outfit as it does with a more sophisticated look. It’s a breeze to make: thread the beads and pendant onto a cable wire, use Crimp beads to secure everything, and attach your clasp. Everything is explained in our tutorial—you’ll see, it’s very simple! And if you’re not a fan of blue, you can always switch to a pink version with Strawberry Quartz beads, a green version with Peridot, or an orange version with Carnelian.

How to make a natural stone elastic bracelet that won't break?

To prevent your elastic bracelet from breaking, follow these best practices:

  • Choose the thickest elastic thread possible, without exceeding the internal diameter of your beads.
  • Pre-stretch the wire before stringing the beads, to prevent it from relaxing afterwards and limit the risk of breakage.
  • Tie a secure knot, like a surgeon's knot, then add a dot of jewel glue.

You can also use a needle to avoid weakening the elastic by forcing it into the beads.

By following these steps, your bracelet will remain strong and comfortable, even when worn every day.

Which wire is strongest for mounting natural stone beads?

The strongest wire for mounting natural stone beads is cabled wire. Made up of several strands, it offers excellent strength, ideal for the weight of gemstones.

You can also use :

  • braided nylon wire, strong and discreet,
  • metal wire (wire wrapping wire) for more structured creations,
  • elastic wire for settings with lightweight stones.

For a long-lasting, secure piece of jewelry, wired wire remains the most reliable and versatile solution.
