How to close a creole?

Creole earrings are timeless pieces of jewelry. Easy to wear, they find a place in many jewelry boxes, for both men and women. Available in a variety of sizes, materials and styles, these hoop earrings are perfect for any occasion.

Creoles can be attached to the ear in a variety of ways, offering comfort and security to suit everyone's preferences:

  • With a plunger when open, to ensure a discreet and reliable hold.
  • With a hinged closure consisting of a small clip-on bar, perfect for everyday use.
  • With an invisible closure consisting of a small bar to be inserted into the body of the buckle, creating the illusion of a continuous ring with no visible interruption.

However, over time, the closing mechanism, particularly on invisible fasteners, can lose its effectiveness. It's not uncommon for the shank of a creole earring to become misaligned, making it difficult to close and wear. As a result, the earrings are no longer secure and you risk losing them. Fortunately, this problem is easily solved. The solution is to readjust the stem using round-nose pliers, to reposition it correctly in the axis (as explained in the steps below).

To prevent the stem from becoming misaligned again, store your creoles in a separate box, away from shock and friction. This will extend the life of your jewelry and keep it in perfect condition for every occasion.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Inspect the creole to identify any misalignment. The stem may be slightly bent or displaced in relation to the hole in the creole.

Make sure the creole is clean and free of any obstructions that could prevent the stem from realigning properly.

Step 2

Take the round-nose pliers in one hand and the creole in the other.
Gently place the rod in the notch of the round-nose pliers.
Carefully apply slight pressure to straighten the rod, bringing it gently back towards the axis of the hole.
Avoid excessive force on the rod, to avoid breaking or damaging it.

Step 3

After readjusting the stem, try closing the creole to check that the stem fits into the hole.
If necessary, readjust by repeating the operation until the stem is perfectly aligned.
