what is amazonite?

Amazonite is a natural stone named after the Amazon River in South America, an exotic and lush region associated with the legendary Amazon tribe. The stone symbolizes courage and peace, and pays tribute to these warrior women.

The origins of amazonite

In many ancient civilizations, amazonite was associated with the gods. In Mesopotamia, it was dedicated to Tiamat, the goddess of waters and oceans. The Babylonians said it was the origin of everything, including the creation of the gods. For the Navajo Indians, it was linked to Estsanatlehi, the goddess behind the creation of mankind.
The Egyptians used amazonite in jewelry and to create ritual objects. They created jewelry such as rings, pendants, amazonite bracelets and necklaces. The most famous piece of amazonite jewelry is a scarab ring found in Tutankhamen's tomb.
As for the Romans, they adorned their shields with amazonite stones. In addition to decorating their weapons, they considered the stone to have protective powers.

What are the properties of amazonite stone?

Amazonite is a fine stone (formerly known asa "semi-precious stone") belonging to the Feldspar family. This gemstone has a hardness of between 6 and 6.5 on the Mohs scale and a density of 2.63.

What color is amazonite?

Its green-blue color varies from pale green to bright green, light turquoise blue and pale yellow-green. It can be streaked or banded in white, gray or gold.
It is sometimes confused with aventurine, because of its similar color, turquoise and certain varieties of jade.

where is amazonite found?

Although its name is linked to the Amazon River, there are deposits of amazonite all over the world. The best-known deposits are found in Austria, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Canada, Ethiopia, Finland, India, Russia, South Africa and the United States.

What are the benefits of amazonite?

In lithotherapy, amazonite is considered a soothing, balancing stone. It is said to promote communication, self-expression and creativity.

Linked to the throat chakra, amazonite is said to encourage communication, creative expression, listening and understanding others.
Linked to the heart chakra , this stone is said to facilitate the expression of unconditional love and loving communication. It releases emotional blockages, dissipates resentment and helps cultivate compassion for oneself and others.

How do I recharge with amazonite?

To regain its full energy and eliminate negative charges, this natural stone needs to be purified and recharged on a regular basis.
There are several ways topurify amazonite:

  • with soil: bury your stone in a garden or flowerpot for at least 24 hours.
  • with incense: pass incense or white sage smoke around the stone several times.

To recharge your stone, place it for a few hours in the soft, regenerating light of the moon (preferably on a full moon night). Ideally, place it on a quartz cluster or amethyst geode to amplify the process.

How to wear amazonite stone

The soft color of amazonite blends equally well with gold and silver. In jewelry, it will be enhanced by gold-filled (laminated gold), gold-plated, stainless steel or 925 silver.

What stone to wear amazonite with?

  • Lithotherapists recommend pairing amazonite with a stone of similar color, such as turquoise,aventurine, fluorite,moss agate, chrysocolla or chrysoprase.
  • They recommend pairing it with rose quartz or rhodonite. Combining these gemstones can help balance emotions and enhance loving communication.
  • With lapis lazuli, it would enhance communication and self-expression, and promote clear, authentic communication.
  • Combined with carnelian, it supports creative expression and self-confidence.
  • The marriage of aquamarine and amazonite can create a harmonious synergy. Aquamarine can amplify the soothing qualities of amazonite. This combination promotes relaxation and emotional harmony.
