Zoïsite ruby is a natural stone whose name comes from the Latin "rubeus" meaning "red" and the name of mineralogist Sigmunf Zois.
Austrian geologist Sigmund Zois is said to have been the first to discover this fine stone. But it was German geologist Abraham Gottlob Werner who officially described it. He paid homage to his predecessor by naming the stone "ruby zoïsite".
The other name for this natural stone (formerly part of the classification of semi-precious stones) isAnyolite, which refers to the green color in the Masai language.
Very little is known about the history of this stone. It is present in the oral tradition of East African tribes, where it is considered a magical green stone with the power to protect hunters from the dangers of nature by rendering them invisible.
It was also used to adorn the jewels of kings and aristocrats, such as Saint-Louis, Charles V and the Duc de Berry.
Zoisite ruby combines two types of stone, so it has two properties. It has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale for ruby (making it one of the hardest stones after diamond) and a hardness of between 6 and 6.5 on the Mohs scale for the zoïsite part.
This astonishing stone has a unique and attractive color palette, composed of a combination of shades of green, red/pink inclusions and black veins.
The main deposits are found in Austria, Burma, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand, the USA and Vietnam.

In lithotherapy, it is considered a positive stone, stimulating vital energy, fighting spirit and determination. It is also said to be a gentle, soothing stone, a source of calm, intelligence and creativity, calming nervousness.
Its green color symbolizes positive energy, balance and sharing. Its pink color represents strength, authority, courage and motivation.
Associated with the heart chakra, it promotes self-love, empathy and harmonious relationships.
Also linked to the root chakra, it is a source of energy, fighting spirit and determination.
Please note: our gemstones are not sold for lithotherapy. The effects of stones have not been scientifically proven. Natural stones are not a substitute for medical expertise or treatment.
Like all gemstones, lithotherapists recommend regular purification and recharging of zoisite ruby, so that it regains its properties and virtues.
To purify it, simply immerse it in spring water for a few hours. Then dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth. You can also use fumigation, by surrounding your fine stone with sage or incense smoke.
To recharge it, place the ruby zoisite stone under the soft, regenerating light of the moon overnight. To amplify this process, place it on a quartz cluster or amethyst geode.
The color of this fine stone blends perfectly with both gold and silver. You can create a piece of jewelry with Gold-Filled (gold laminate), Gold-Plated, 925 Silver or Stainless Steel and Gold Stainless Steel jewelry primers.
Zoïsite ruby harmonizes perfectly with red jasper or tourmaline. For the heart chakra, combine with malachite or jade. For the root chakra, combine it with garnet.
On the other hand, lithotherapists recommend not combining ruby zoïsite with :
- black tourmaline or obsidian, which would create an energetic contrast,
- lepidolite or blue lace agate, which have soothing energies,
- blue chalcedony, citrineor tiger's eye, which could create an energetic imbalance,
- an amethyst that doesn't harmonize well with the extroverted energy of a zoisite ruby.
