What is unakite?

This natural stone is considered a relatively new discovery by gemologists. In fact, no ancient texts, myths, or legends mention this green and pink stone. It was first discovered by the French mineralogist René Just Haüy in the early 19th century. He named it “epidote,” derived from the Greek word “epidosis,” meaning “addition.”
It was rediscovered several decades later by the American geologist Frank Howe Bradley in the southern United States, in the heart of the Unaka Mountains, which gave it its definitive name.

It is sometimes called“unakite jasper,” although it is not actually a jasper.
