To knit 1/1 ribbing, you need to alternate a purl stitch on the same row, then a purl stitch, and so on until the end of the row. You can see the "right side" and "wrong side" rows that are formed on the work.
Be sure to watch the arrangement of the stitches when you change rows. If you have an even number of stitches, start all your rows the same way. But if you have an odd number of stitches, if you end a row with a purl stitch, you must start your new row with a purl stitch.
How to recognize purl and right side stitches? The purl stitch looks like a small "v". The purl stitch forms a mini ball.

Knit a "right side" stitch. Pass the yarn to the front.
Knit a purl stitch.
Reminder: to make a purl stitch, with the right needle, you stitch from right to left in the first stitch (from the bottom to the top). The right needle is on the left needle. Then, the thread is wrapped by passing it above and below the right needle.
The stitch ispulled up (the stitch on the left needle is dropped). A new stitch is slipped onto the right needle.
Once your "purl" stitch is done, pass your yarn behind the right needle. Then, continue alternating "right side" and "wrong side" stitches until the end of the row.
It is important not to forget to pass your yarn between the two needles towards the front or back depending on the stitch you are going to make.
