How to make a crochet bracelet
It's perfectly possible to crochet yarn to make a cord for a bracelet or necklace. You can do this with chain stitch. It's even very trendy! If you're already a fan of crochet and jewelry, now's the time to combine your two passions. And if you've never crocheted before, don't worry, in this article we'll guide you through the steps to create a crochet necklace or bracelet in chain stitch. We'll also show you how to crochet beads with thread for a more sophisticated look.
What yarn and hook should I use to crochet a beaded cord?
There are no real restrictions, apart from the need to use a thread that is strong enough for the crochet jewelry you're going to make. If you want to incorporate pearls, you'll need a rather fine thread: between 0.30 mm for a very fine, delicate bracelet and 1 mm for a more imposing necklace with large pearls. Of course, it's also possible to make an XXL bracelet or necklace by crocheting silk ribbon, for example, but in this case it will be more difficult to add pearls. You can use soft, synthetic thread like jade, or stiffer, natural thread like cotton. It's also possible to use gold and silver thread, but make sure it's soft enough to be crocheted and resistant enough to rubbing.
Next, you'll need a hook suitable for your yarn. The thicker the hook, the wider the stitches. For very fine yarn, choose a hook around 1 mm. For a 1 mm thread, you can use a 2.5 or 3 mm hook. To pass the beads over the thread more easily, use a needle with a wide eye or a slotted needle. If you use a needle, check that the thread can pass through the bead hole twice.
Finally, to transform your chainette cord into a piece of jewelry, you can add lace clips to the end of the thread. These special ends for cords or laces are fitted with a ring. So you can attach a clasp. To close the lace clips and attach the clasp, you'll need at least one pair of flat and round pliers.
