DIY knitting - black cat hat in foam stitch with Laine Essentials Big

An ideal DIY to get you started with knitting and reveal your feline side! In this tutorial, we'll be working on the purl stitch , which is one of the basic knitting stitches and the easiest to start with !

We love to see what you can do with our Perles & Co tutorials, so don't hesitate to send us photos of your creations on our Facebook page.

Tutorial steps

Step 1
DIY knitting - black cat hat in foam stitch with Laine Essentials Big : Step 1

To measure the size of your bonnet, you first need to look at the label on the ball and find out its head size:

Sample:

For 10 cm wide, knit 11 stitches, and for 10 cm high, knit 16 rows.

Head circumference:

A woman generally has a head circumference of 55 to 60 cm for a cup height of 28 cm, and a man 58 to 61 cm for a cup height of 28 to 30 cm.

Calculation:

For a woman's bonnet, we'll need to cast on around 31 stitches and knit 45 rows.

Last but not least: the bonnet is a square, sewn on two sides!

Step 2

Make a simple knot on your needle (this is your first stitch!), leaving about 50 cm of thread to sew the first side of the hat.

Step 3

With this piece of yarn in your hand, knit your stitches: wrap the yarn around your right index finger, insert the needle into the loop of your index finger, remove your finger and tighten slightly.

Step 4

Once you've completed your first row of stitches, start the moss stitch: insert your right-hand needle into the first stitch, passing under your left-hand needle. Using the yarn from the ball, make a loop around your right index finger to insert the right-hand needle, then remove your index finger.

Step 5

Pass the tip of your right needle through the stitch and pass it back over the left needle to let the stitch fall:

This gives you a new stitch on the right-hand needle.

Finish knitting the row, then knit all your stitches and rows right side out.

To avoid getting lost in your rows, remember to count them! For moss stitch, you have hollow rows and raised rows - i.e. each row must be counted:

Step 7

Once you've finished your last row, you need to fold over the stitches. To do this, knit two new right sides together, then insert the left needle into the first stitch of the right needle and gently lift it over the second stitch, letting it fall:

Step 8

When doing the chassé-croisé, remember to pull the thread a little with your right hand to hold the second stitch.

You'll have one stitch left on your right needle. Repeat the operation, knitting the next stitch, until the last stitch is on the right needle. At this point, save 40 cm of thread for sewing the second side of the hat, cut the rest of the thread and pass it through the last stitch, tightening a little to lock in place.

Step 9

You have a knitted rectangle in front of you, which you fold to make a square. Now knit an invisible seam on each edge with the large eye needle.

Step 10

Finally, cut and tuck the wires inwards. You're done!

Now you can go out proudly with your hat and say, "I made it! And if you're too superstitious, you can change the color of the hat and knit it with a cream-colored wool.

Bonjour,
La couture se fait des 2 côtés, de part et d'autre de la tête. En portant le bonnet, cela fait naturellement un effet oreilles de chat !
