In this new beadweaving tutorial, our creative partner Sophie—aka Elyconia—shows you how to make this beautiful pair of hoop earrings using the “twist” herringbone technique. This design is made using a base of 6 Miyuki Delica 11/0 beads in 4 different colors, including a repeating pattern of gold beads across 3 rows. In the video, we’ll guide you through each step, providing detailed explanations and teaching you how to weave these beautiful, timeless earrings—a must-have staple for your jewelry collection!
Familiarity with the Herringbone technique is recommended before starting this project. To learn the technique, please refer to our technical guide. While weaving, you’ll need to control the tension and use dexterity to ensure the rows stay aligned, resulting in a smooth, even finish. This project involves some precise steps. It’s best to work on it with focus and care. I strongly recommend following this entire tutorial and slowing down the video or pausing it as many times as needed.
The final step—securing the weave to the hoop with stainless steel wire—also requires a bit of attention and concentration to properly shape and tighten the “spring” that will act as a stopper!
We made these earrings using a combination of red and blue—a timeless, classic look that never goes out of style, summer after summer—but of course, you’re free to create and customize your own color combinations. We have a wide selection of Delica beads on our website, so feel free to choose your own.
