How to make a meditation mala
A mala is a necklace used for meditation and the recitation of mantras (prayers) in the Buddhist and Hindu religions. For others, it's also a lucky fashion accessory, depending on the stones chosen. This necklace is traditionally made up of 108 beads, but today many malas are available with a different number of beads.
In this tutorial, the necklace is made up of 76 goldstone beads. Goldstone is an imitation "sunstone" glass bead containing small copper flakes that give it a lovely sparkle, just like the original, which also contains the same type of flakes.
You can adapt this meditation necklace to your own taste and needs by adding beads or choosing different gemstone beads such as malachite or sodalite. Be careful, however, about the size of the holes. You can also choose a finer thread, such as silk thread, which is just as strong as linen, for example.
