Want a unique bandana necklace that instantly transforms your look? This tutorial shows you how to turn a simple black paisley-patterned bandana into a trendy, customizable piece of jewelry, embellished with boldly shaped gold-plated stainless steel pendants. An ultra-easy DIY necklace that takes just a few minutes to make without any complicated tools.
The bandana necklace is one of the biggest trends right now: both a piece of jewelry and a fashion accessory, it can be worn alone close to the neck or layered with other necklaces for a very trendy stacked look. This black-and-gold design plays on graphic contrast and bold style, with pendants featuring striking patterns—a panther, a snake, a sun, a flowered half-moon, and a pistol —that give it a unique and very personal character.
To assemble this necklace, a simple technique is used: opening and closingstainless steel jump rings to attach each pendant to the gold-tone trace chain. This is a basic technique in creative jewelry-making, ideal for beginners, and you’ll find step-by-step instructions in our practical guide on how to open a ring. The stainless steel findings used do not tarnish, do not rust, and are resistant to water and sweat—perfect for everyday wear.
This tutorial lends itself perfectly to customization. You can replace the suggested pendants with other shapes available in our stainless steel pendants category, choose a chain of a different length from our selection of stainless steel findings, or even opt for a bandana in a different color. With over 70,000 items at Perles & Co, there’s plenty to choose from to create a bandana necklace that truly reflects your style.

Using your sewing scissors, cut a strip about 2 cm wide from the length of the bandana. Be sure to cut straight for a neat finish.

Thread one end of the bandana through the first link of the chain, then continue link by link until you have threaded the entire length of the chain.

Continue threading the bandana through each link until you reach the last link of the necklace.

Fold the chain in half to locate the center link, and attach the half-moon pendant to it by opening a ring with your two pliers. Then arrange the four remaining pendants on either side, spacing them as you like.
The bandana may fray slightly after cutting. For a neat finish, run your sewing scissors along the fabric and trim off any loose threads.

To keep the bandana from slipping off the neck strap, you have several options: tie a small, discreet knot at each end; thread an open ring through the fabric and the last link before closing it; or apply a small drop of fabric glue. It’s up to you to choose the finish that works best for you!
