How to make a large link bracelet?

The big links are very trendy. You can wear them in gold, silver or coloured versions. We offer a very wide range of large plastic and metal links on our site, but have you thought about making them yourself? We happen to sell a silicone mould that allows you to create your own links with Epoxy Resin. This resin is composed of two transparent liquids to be mixed: The resin and a hardener. By mixing them, a chemical reaction takes place and the resin solidifies. By pouring it into a suitable mould, you can create all sorts of very solid shapes in 24 to 48 hours. You can tint it, put gold leaves, dried flowers or small metal elements in it.

Today, we suggest you create your own resin links with small metal stars and moons inside. You can make a bracelet with a clasp or add coloured plastic links for a unique look. This tutorial is also adaptable to a necklace. Remember to take a bag of coloured links as well.

The amount of resin indicated in the material list will allow you to make enough links for several bracelets or necklaces. You can even try out other resin jewellery tutorials with this pack of resin.

Remember to wear gloves, safety glasses and to air the room. Another recommendation: let your resin catalyze (harden) in the shade and not under a window because the sun can affect the appearance of the resin. Once cured, do not store it under the sun either, but in a drawer or jewelry box in a non-humid room, like all costume jewelry.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Prepare the resin links: Place the mould on a small tray. Place the smallest elements of the moon and star assortment in the unopened links of the mould. To make it easier to find them, you can pour the contents onto a sheet of paper. Fill at least 4 of them, 5 to be sure if one of the first 4 is not successful.

Mix the two liquids of the epoxy resin following the quantities indicated on the packaging. To avoid wasting your measuring cups, mix in a disposable paper cup or small glass jar intended only for your hobbies and not for food. Mix the resin gently with a wooden stick. Do not fill to the brim.

Pour your resin drop by drop using the spatula. Tap the tray on the table gently to bring up the bubbles and distribute the resin evenly. With a lighter or a gas lighter, pass a flame over the resin to make the small bubbles explode. Leave to catalyse for 48 hours in the shade.

Fitting the large link bracelet: Feel free to adjust this step. The bracelet will need to be much larger than your wrist size to make it easier to put on and take off.

To put the resin links into the plastic links, open the slot slightly with your fingers and force the resin link inside.

Here is the order of the links in the example: 1 resin link, 2 plastic links, 1 resin link, 2 plastic links, 1 resin link, 2 plastic links, 1 resin link. Open your clasp and slide in the first and last resin links.
