The Heishi rondelles used here are synthetic. They are made from a material similar to polymer clay. If you're intrigued by polymer clay, take a look at this tutorial of flower creoles made from polymer clay and learn how to use this DIY modeling technique to make your own Heishi pucks.
To avoid losing the beads when you put on and take off the creoles, you may want to add stopper beads. You'll need four. You can also use earring stoppers.
