Weaving peyote Christmas mouse pattern in Miyuki Delica

How to weave a kawaii pattern in peyote?

In this tutorial, Tiphaine, aka Lulu and the little pea, shows you how to make a little mother Christmas mouse hidden behind a decorative bell woven from Miyuki beads using the Peyote weaving technique. Who hasn't dreamed of being a little mouse at Christmas to preview the gifts you've been given? This weaving technique will enable you to create a decoration, a brooch or even a piece of jewelry! For example, you can use it to decorate your Christmas tree. The choice is yours! If you choose the brooch option, we recommend stiffening the weave with Paper Patch varnish glue beforehand.

To make this peyote weaving chart, use the diagram and color palette at the bottom of the page. If you're new to weaving, take a look at our technical sheets on bead weaving. You can also consult our ice diagram tutorial, in which all peyote weaving steps are explained step by step.

A little tip: use a bead mat to avoid losing beads.

And if you like peyote bead weaving, we invite you to take a look at our other peyote bead weaving tutorials!

Tutorial steps

Step 1

To make this weave, cut your thread at about 1m and take your needle. You can adjust your weaving as you go along. To make weaving easier, arrange your beads by color and follow the diagram.

Start your weaving with the longest row of the pattern and follow the diagram by adding beads one after the other. To get started with your weaving, you may want to check out our data sheets, "How to make a simple even Peyote weave?" and "How to make an odd Peyote weave?"

Step 2

Once you have completed your first row, you can move to the next row, either to the right or left, and continue on that same side following the diagram. The rows do not all contain the same number of beads, those are increases or decreases, that is, additions or deletions of beads from one row to another. If you don't know how to do this, check out our fact sheet, "How to make increases and decreases in peyote?"

Step 3

It is likely that you will need to add more thread while weaving. To do this, you will need to lock the thread in use in the weaving itself by zig-zagging between the beads. As you pass between the beads and rows, the thread will no longer be visible. Repeat this step to incorporate your new thread and bring it out to the desired location to continue your weaving.

When your pattern weave is complete, do the same to lock your thread into the beads before cutting off the excess. That's it! You have completed your weaving! All that's left to do is to integrate it into a decoration, a brooch or a bjou! It's up to you!
