Discover two easy-to-make charm necklaces with this gold-plated stainless steel choker. Add your own rhinestone charms or tarot card pendants to personalize it. These necklaces are all in gold-plated stainless steel. Gold-plated stainless steel is an oxidation-resistant and hypoallergenic material, perfect for creating jewelry that lasts over time. This short necklace features a pretty, trendy mirrored mesh that will enhance your neck. Open rings are welded directly onto the flexible chain. You can easily add all kinds of charms and pendants. Pay attention to the direction of the rings on your charms and pendants. If the rings face in, you'll need to add junction rings to attach them to the necklace, as shown in our beginner's jewelry tutorial. Also, don't choose charms that are too small, as the choker may turn on itself.
In this video tutorial, I propose two versions of the necklace: a necklace with charms topped with PureCrystal rhinestones, perfect for the festive season, and a more discreet, yet original necklace you can wear every day. The necklace with tarot card charms contains no rhinestones, but the theme is singular. A few crystals added sparingly, a single tarot card as a central pendant and a few gri-gri charms will further personalize your DIY necklace.
The little extra in this tutorial: I'm proposing that you customize rings to match your charm necklace, using the rest of the rhinestones you haven't used. You can wear these rings with the necklace to complete your festive outfit, or give them as table gifts at Christmas or New Year's Eve.
Arrange your charms around the necklace before attaching them to make sure the ensemble fits. Then attach them using open rings if the ring of your charm or pendant is front-facing. To open and close a ring, nothing could be simpler: take two jewelry pliers with flat or round tips. Grab the ends of the ring on either side of the opening and rotate the two ends in opposite directions.
Do not pull the ring apart, as this will deform it. Slide the connecting ring onto the collar ring, then place the charm. Then close the ring by rotating the ends in the opposite direction to bring them face to face. At the end, go back and forth a little to make sure they're facing each other and that there's no gap between the two ends.
Then glue your rhinestones onto the charms. If the glue overflows, wipe it off immediately without waiting for it to dry, as you can't remove it afterwards. It's best to wait 24 hours before wearing the necklace. The glue hardens in 2 hours, but only holds well after 24 hours.
