How to make a necklace with macramé wire?

Aux fils du temps is the name we have reserved for this new jewelry collection. A collection in which we find colorful jewels that call for sunshine and good humor after the gray of winter. Aux fils du temps is a clever mix of different colored beads and macramé threads. We find some DIY decoration: suspension for plants or suspension light but also as always our favorite jewelry of the moment.

Here I suggest you to create a trendy necklace for this summer. Nothing could be simpler than a simple stringing of beads on a wire and the realization of the basic knot in macramé: the macramé flat knot. This jewel can be an excellent gift idea to offer to your loved ones, either as a finished jewel ready to wear, or as a "kit" to make yourself. Don't worry, if you are a beginner in jewelry creation, this tutorial is largely accessible to you and will give you all the keys to launch you in other projects.

The jewelry is organized on both sides of a central divider that will allow you to attach personalized charms made from a charm and a lobster clasp. Embellish the support according to your desires and express your mood of the day. For this, a wide choice of charms is available: astrological signs, initials, animals, or even lucky charms, the hardest part will be to choose. Vary the charms and opt for the initials of your children, your other half, or simply your friends (or simply for your pet or your favorite number).

This necklace is made from different types of beads. Only a small amount of each bead is needed to make this necklace, so you can of course use your leftover bead bag ends and stocks to substitute:
- natural stone heishi beads and metal heishi beads
- round flattened faceted beads (8x6mm and 3x4mm)
- Miyuki seed beads 8/0

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Macramé necklace with faceted beads and silver 925 central spacer : Step 1

Cut approximately 2 x 50 cm of Linahsita 0.35mm waxed thread. Make a knot with your wire to link it to the 925 silver diamond spacer. Hide the knot with a pearl cover to be crushed (it is a round open pearl that is placed over either a knot or another pearl and must be closed with a flat clip).

Step 2

Start threading your beads on the wire in the order of your choice. If you want to reproduce the sequence, you can refer to the presentation photo. To create the perfect sequence of beads without having to string and remove the beads you can use an assembly tray, a magical tool that allows you to visualize the final result of your creation.

Step 3

After a few centimeters of bead stringing, tie a new thread around your support thread, about 15 cm in its center. Make your first macramé overhand knot. To do so, you can consult our technical sheet: Learn how to make a macramé overhand knot.

Step 4

Continue in this way until you have approximately 1cm of macramé knots. Remember to vary the direction of the knots to obtain a flat result. If you make all the knots in the same direction without ever reversing the direction of the threads you will get a twisted effect (which is also very pretty). Resume stringing beads and alternate with short lengths of macramé flat knots.

Step 5

Close your necklace with about 4 to 5 cm of macramé flat knots. This part will be located at the back of your neck.
Repeat all the previous steps on the other side of the central spacer to make a symmetrical necklace. Cut the wires that protrude from the macramé parts and burn them with a lighter or a wire burner.

Step 6

Finish this necklace by making another small length (a few cm) of macramé flat knots to make the threads slide. This necklace does not have a clasp. Then cut the threads used to make the slip knot and burn them.

Step 7

Let the threads of the necklace extend about 15-18 cm then make a first knot at 12 cm. String a few beads in a sequence from the necklace and close with a knot. Burn the end to secure the thread. Do the same on the other side.

Step 8

Attach your charms to your lobster clasps using the open ring on the clasps. Embellish your necklace as you wish by attaching charms to the center divider or leave it as is. Remember to adjust the number of clasps you need and the choice of charms.

Your necklace is finished, here is the final result.
