How to mix Brick Stitch and Herringbone?

DIY : Miyuki bead weaving bracelet pattern

Discover in this tutorial how to create a beaded bracelet mixing different weaving techniques: herringbone weaving and brickstitch weaving.
Myriam, one of our faithful customers shares with you today the diagram of her bracelet in silver and electric blue colors. It will go perfectly with light clothes and a tanned skin this summer.

And to add a touch of originality, this bracelet offers a variation to the classic weaves: weave this bracelet by mixing different types of beads. Find in this bracelet both the Miyuki Delicas 11/0 beadsbut also Miyuki 3 mm bugles and 3 mm facets. You can of course change the colors of this bracelet by choosing from the hundreds of references available on our site. It's up to you!

Tutorial steps

Step 1
DIY herringbone weave and brickstitch bracelet with bugle beads and Miyuki Delicas 11/0 : Step 1

Start by weaving the end of your bracelet, i.e. the triangular part woven with the brickstitch technique.

Start with the longest line, i.e. the base of the triangle and continue until you have woven the tip of the triangle. To do this, make decreases. For those who need a reminder of the technique, see our technical sheet: How to do a brick stitch weave with increases and decreases?

Step 2
DIY herringbone weave and brickstitch bracelet with bugle beads and Miyuki Delicas 11/0 : Step 2

Once the tip of the triangle is woven, make a loop of 25 beads of the color of your choice. This loop will be used to close the bracelet and to accommodate the round bead that will be at the other end of the bracelet. To secure this loop, pass the thread through the loop three times.

Step 3
DIY herringbone weave and brickstitch bracelet with bugle beads and Miyuki Delicas 11/0 : Step 3

Bring your yarn up to stand on the base of the triangle and start weaving following the diagram with the herringbone technique. For a refresher on the technique, check out our how-to sheet:

How to do herringbone weaving or check out our other tutorials:

Attention, in some places a variation of beads is proposed by inserting Miyuki bugles instead of Delicas beads. The technique remains the same.

Step 4
DIY herringbone weave and brickstitch bracelet with bugle beads and Miyuki Delicas 11/0 : Step 4

In the center of the diagram, faceted bugles are integrated in the bracelet. Once your row of flugelhorns, then the row of Miyuki Delicas is done, insert 1 facet and 2 Delicas before going back down in the same facet. Continue your weaving in the classical way with the herringbone technique. Repeat this operation during the second sequence with facets.

Step 5
DIY herringbone weave and brickstitch bracelet with bugle beads and Miyuki Delicas 11/0 : Step 5

Once your bracelet is finished, you just have to make the end with the same technique as in step 1. After the herringbone weaving, weave the base of your triangle with the brickstitch technique and make a few decreases.

When you are at the tip of the triangle, go out through one of the two beads, insert 3 seed beads, the 8 mm round bead of your choice, 1 seed bead and then go through the round bead again. Insert 3 more seed beads to create symmetry and lock your thread in the brickstitch triangle by passing through several beads in all directions. Cut your thread.
